Re: Allen Carr's Book

I took notes on the book . . . the parts that were meaningful to me.
I can easily go back to the notes now without going back to the entire book.
They key thing for me was accepting the NO BENEFITS of drinking part.
Then it clicked.

I don't believe it is because of foul language, Julie.
As to what exactly, though, I'll need to ask.

Re: NEW MEMBERS - Please Introduce Yourself (on the last pag

A lot of us struggle with the why me question, Doris. Sometimes it's better to put that kind of analysis on the backburner and focus on the present. As one of my wise friends reminds me, it is what it is, deal with it. Your last post shows that you goals are clear. Don't lose sight of them. You are ...

Re: The 1 Year Milestone

Today I've reached my personal best . . . 17 months. I've sort of given up counting days, but I happened to notice today was Sunday the 23rd and I am pretty sure it was a Sunday the 23rd when I quit for good. I am looking forward to the days getting longer and then a bit shorter as I reach for two y...

Re: SOS - Post here if you need help (NO GENERAL CHAT PLEASE

Sometimes when I have to face a difficult situation such as you are walking into Space, I envision a protective shield around me and the words, glares, whatever, bouncing or sliding off me. My protective shield lets in enough, but not too much. A bit of silly imagery perhaps, but it may help a bit. ...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

Neil, great reading that things are looking up.
It's amazing what a bit of support, and a bit of passage of time, can do for our outlook.
I like the way you are envisioning an alternative to black/white all/nothing thinking re NZ. (::)

Re: The Road to Abstinence

Amazing reading on the road this morning. Lots to process. Julie, to me happiness and joy come unbidden. Pursuit can sometimes have the effect of pushing it away. Without the block of drinking, I can recognize and accept it for the gift it is when it comes. Among my handful of favorite self-help boo...

Soberatlast, can you take a wee "timeout"?
Take a few deep breaths and get yourself to a place of calm.
A short walk perhaps?

Re: Just want to share.

Zara, don't let her get to you. This is what kids that age do to you. Some of them seem to be coded to play one parent off against the other. Don't drink. Get that thought out or your head. Her vantage on the world is so so different. She really doens't hate you regardless of the hateful word. I got...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

Netti, This is a fine place for anyone whose goal is abstinence. <:)> Most of us on this thread have had a blip or more, but have mostly sorted out that we want a future that doesn't involve drinking. I think you've landed in a good place. That said, you can also post on one of the challenges at the...

Re: Advice / Tools for Newcomers (Privacy etc)

I am not too techically inclined but what works for me is the resizing using the feature on Word.
Do you have Word?

Also see BE Roadmap and Navigation Tips, scoll down a ways on the General Recovery Foru.
Several ideas their.

Re: Eating and Food Issues

I've seen it Bev. It's really kind of scary. Makes me realize I have that potential but never crossed the line from just messy. I do understand some of the dynamics, though. People are trying to gain control by surround themselves with things. Some are OCD, some have suffered a serious loss and rela...

Re: So what'ya drink instead?

Linda, I bought a water carbonater for Christmas pressie for myself. Good investment. Use it everyday. Fun just to experiment with flavors . . . mints, vanilla, sassafras, almond, chocolate, lemon, lime. . . alone or in various combinations. It is really livening up my water drinking. My husband use...

Re: The First 7 Days

Kingsnoopy, never hesitate to go to SOS. Still, I am betting you get some timely support right now. You know it, but I'll say anyway, drinking will not help in any way with those real stressors you are facing. I can say with something like 99% confidence that the stress related to those issues will ...

That's good advice, Tony. Also: don't worry about perfection. If you are concerned about that kind of stuff, you can just go ahead and post and go back and edit to your heart's content. And here's what I posted to Turtles who was afflicted with disappearing posts on another thread Turtles, we can al...

OK Dom, banish that doubt. It's the EAF or AV having a go at you. One way around boredom, is to make a list of things to do and do them. Go some place Sat night where alcohol is not availabe. Take a long walk Post post post here. Really there is too much going on in this great wonderful world to eve...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

Ace, couldn't help but note that your first sentence is not exactly congruent with the third. Typo perhaps, or is the old AV/EAF doing a number on you? This time I truly want to stay off the stuff permanently.I think putting a lot of effort into thinking the thing through has to be a good start.I wi...
