Re: What's a drink problem?

"What's a drink problem?". TBH i think that everyone who uses this hard drug called alcohol has a problem, it's a drug that causes so much problems that's in fact strange that we accept it so good. Alcohol never adds something positive to a good or bad state of mind, the fake illusion that alcohol ...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hello everyone :\: , my name is Peter and I'm now in day 40 of no alcohol, down from 25 units a day. I've managed reasonably OK but my body's now doing odd things that I didn't read about so I'm hoping I might find some help here! All was good for the first month, suddenly constipation and sugar cr...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

One of the things that I notice about drinking is that time seems to fly past so quickly but that time is filled with nothing tangible or meaningful. I am back at square one. Had a horrible few day’s, digging myself deeper into a pit of despair (mostly about my circumstances) but I’m desperately cl...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Today i heard yet another story of a person dying from alcohol related complications. He was 50 and a colleague/friend of someone i know. A few weeks ago the friend who is staying with us lost her father suddenly to alcohol. He was 48 and had lasted 2 weeks sober on leaving rehab, relapsed badly an...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

ps my old cat (19 years old) has reached the end and i realise I have to help her over what we here call the "rainbow bridge". I am very sad, but am devoting a few days to giving her TLC until my kids come back, hand-feeding her all sorts of goodies from my freezer (of the ikky stuff that they love...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you're having a happy and sober day whether with loved ones or alone this year <:)>

Watching Michael Cain try to sing on a Muppet Christmas Carol just now has cheered me up no end :D . Fair play to him for giving it a go!

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Welcome back Leslans <:)> . I'm lurking also. I was wondering round the supermarket yesterday and had the most random desire to drink. This is after two and a half years sober. Old habits and feelings can come back so easily. Mentally I'm not in a great place and feeling out of control - perhaps tha...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi :\: , I've been in lurking mode for a bit :lol2: . I love this thread <:)> . I’m feeling more and more comfortable telling people that I’m not drinking but have been wondering what other people use as their reason. At first, I used the antibiotics one as didn’t want to stop drinking in the first ...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Marianne7916 (::) , congrats on your 100 days! Hello everyone, I hope you're all well. Sandy, great post about moderation, I agree with every word. What helps me when I think "oh it'd be good just to have a drink or two", is to acknowledge to myself that I don't actually want to be a moderate drinke...

Re: General Support and Chat

Only twice ever in all my years on BE have I had to make a poster a "foe" to hide their posts and both in the last fortnight  Two attention seeking tw@ts in just under 2 weeks. A record  Thanks for the heads up on the 'foe' feature, martha ;)? , to block the self-absorbed attentio...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hey tj <:)> , I dont have any words of wisdom to share, but just wanted to say hello and welcome back. I think most of us can relate to feelings of self recrimination, humiliation, regret and fear of the unknown. You've done great to stop for the last 29 days, and have come to a supportive place for...

Re: General Support and Chat

Good for you, Leslans ;)? . It's easy to get complacent after a good stint alcohol free (I'm at about the same as you in terms of months), and maybe a reboot is just the ticket to ensure your journey remains successful. Hope AA works out for you!
