Re: Sober July

Well done Trina! That's a whole month now for you.
I'm still on track. Going to be on my own for 4 nights but I'm not going to drink. I'm enjoying being sober too much.
Hope everyone is doing fine. Here's to a dry July - unlike the weather here! X

Re: General Support and Chat

I think it is helps to think of alcohol as a poison rather than a pleasure. And why would we deliberately poison our precious bodies? We need to take care of our body. And our mind. My app tells me I've saved £70 in just over 2 weeks. I'm the type of person who swithers over a Primark top or an £8.9...

Re: Sober July

Congratulations JJ! Well done. I'm doing fine. A couple of weeks under my belt now and I feel I've broken the destructive yo-yoing for now. Feeling much better. Making nutritious food. For lunch I had homemade felafal, lamb meatballs, pea shoots, spinach, beetroot, tomato, basil, homemade pesto... A...

Re: Sober July

I don't have a bike. I hired it for 24 hours. I live in a tenement flat. No lift. Lots of people have bikes and leave them in the stairwell. My neighbour just bought an electric one. Too much hassle for me. I'm too old for that malarkey. Apart from the hills, I'm too scared of traffic. But I might t...

Re: Sober July

Hi everyone. Green Tara. Om tare tutare ture soha. No idea what it means but it sounds good! I'm not a Buddhist but have been to a few retreats. In fact I was booked on a 3 day retreat last weekend led by George Best's former girlfriend. Now a nun. It was cancelled of course. I will not be buying a ...

Re: Sober July

There is no doubt that drinking robs us of our health and time. I've wasted so many hours/days through alcohol. It robs us of our energy and our mental health. I feel so much better and hope I have broken the destructive habit of drinking as soon as I get a night on my own. I went for another cycle ...

Re: Sober July

Well done JJ. Wanting to look your best is good motivation. I also stopped smoking - in 2005. And would never think of smoking now. I've found alcohol much more difficult though. It is more socially acceptable and still seen as an enjoyable thing to do. Anyway, I am v pleased that I went to a superm...

Re: Sober July

I'm in. I started off lockdown well but the minute I got out from being with my mum, I bought a bottle of wine. I've been going to my own flat every week for about 6 weeks now and have drunk every time. I'm going to my flat today for 3 nights but I'm determined not to give in. What have I achieved b...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Totally get what you are saying pp. Everyone must be in n a better place when they are alcohol free. And the best weight attained and maintened by healthy nutritious food. I'm constantly trying to get there. I've actually lost a little weight in lockdown but my mum said she's gained. She's almost 90...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Congratulations SB!!!👏👏👏👏 So glad the site is up and running again in time for your milestone. Very well done. I've had 3 days drinking in the last 74 or so. So I'm quite pleased and feel much better. Worried about getting back to my flat on my own though. Not happening just yet though. Keep safe ev...

Re: The Six Month Challenge

6 weeks for me today. Small steps. I definitely feel better so it makes no sense to go back to the yo-yoing misery. Anxiety for me is almost gone. Sleep is much better quality. I'm getting out in the fresh air more - how ironic. 😆 Definitely some good things about lockdown. I don't really feel locke...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi y'all. Day 40 for me this time round. I've found it easy enough because I'm with my mum and I don't drink when I'm with her. But I have found myself looking at adverts in the Sunday papers today for red wine and it looks appealing. So I'd better get out of that frame of mind. It happens so easily...

Re: Sober April

I've luckily avoided a supermarket so far. I'm in a rural area and the local shops are doing a great job. Butcher, greengrocer, deli, baker, co-op all functioning with no real social distancing probs. The mobile fish and chip van is coming to the village tonight. Pre-order only but we're not indulgi...

Re: 100 Day Kickstart

Hi everyone. Looks like people are doing well on here. I've realised that I've only drunk on 3 days in the last 58. I'm feeling good and have no drinking thoughts. But things might be different when we get out of lockdown. Anyway I'll cross that bridge when it comes. I prefer my sober life so why ch...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Sorry to hear you feel low leslans. Hopefully it won't be long before you are back on the golf course. And you are doing great with the alcohol. Only day 30 for me but I feel much better. Certainly healthier and less anxious. Although this situation is very worrying. I'm not working and taking a pri...

Re: Sober April

I've climbed up a hill and I'm lying on the grass listening to some meditation music. Better get offline and listen to it miindfully!! I agree it takes 2 for a conflict. I'm probably a v irritating person to be with. I get annoyed at the littlest things. Like mum putting plastic in the paper recycli...

Re: Sober April

It is very difficult being in the same house with people you would rather not be with! I am not in that situation but I do find myself getting so irritated. At stupid things. On the whole I'm getting on fine with my mum. But sometimes...........No wonder I never married! I prefer living on my own. S...

Re: Sober April

Absolutely Luna. In fact, it is even better to realise that alcohol really doesn't have ANY positives. Jason Vale helped me with that.
I still relapse though but I know he's right.

Re: Sober April

4 weeks today for me. I have to say lockdown has made it easier for me. But I know but has made it more difficult for some people. Guess it depends on who you are locked down with. Or if you are on your own. That would have been difficult for me because I'm sure I would have ordered in a crate - or ...
