Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi Les21. I replied to you on another thread, but welcome again :D. Mike! I feel I know you, although we have never 'met'. I read every post on here before signing up, and your posts were so helpful and informative. I'm sorry you're back, because of what that signifies; but I'm pleased you are posti...

Re: Family Matters

Hi Les21 You've come to the right place. There are lots of people here who will understand, and try to help if the can, without judging. Have you looked about the site? A lot of people like to start with the 7 day challenge; but it's not for everyone's see what you think millwork for you. The good t...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hello! I know what you mean about the pictures of wine. I think it’s worse on the screen as they look more realistic. I know that substitutes aren’t everyone’s thing, so ignore me if they are not for you; but I like them, and I wondered if those of you who also do have come across zeroholic? They ar...

Evening, roadies :\:

Just dropping in to say hello, after a busy week or two. I hope everyone is doing well, and keeping on keeping on, as the saying goes.

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Avocado, good luck with your appointment. Taken on its own, one liver function result doesn't mean a lot - a doctor will need to look at it in relation to the others you will have had done at the same time. The good thing is that you have recognised a problem, and are ready to do something about it....

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi Lee 74656 Going out after work was my downfall, too, so I completely understand. It is all too easy to 'go for a drink' after a hard day, to discuss it all with friends, or to plan projects, or socialise with clients; but it soon becomes a habit. Like you, I had a long commute, so the drink would...

Re: The 2019 Challenge

#17 I know what you mean, SB. I got past 18 months a little while ago, and it didn't register. I will know when each year passes, as I count my dates from August Bank Holiday, so there is a marker there, but I don't count in between any more. For anyone nearer the start of the journey, take heart, a...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi Ed and Cliffe. Good to see more roadies have joined us :D. I agree with Cowboy about telling other people. The only people who know why I stopped drinking are my husband and my ex-best friend. She is the one who dropped me after years of holidays together, and I suspect that the reason is that I ...

Re: Life After Sobriety

Not any more, Lee. It is honestly possible to have a fulfilling life without drinking. I was convinced that life would be difficult, if not impossible without a drink or six every night, but really it isn't. You might find that your friendship circle changes a bit; but if that is the case, the ones ...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Cowboy is wise, wapiti, and I would also miss you if you left. Your slip really doesn’t mean that you have to start again. You could count days if you must, and subtract the days you drank, if that makes you feel better. I had a holiday about 2 weeks after I stopped, and I did have wine with dinner ...

Hold that thought, Ed. A hangover never enhances anything, does it?

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Evening, Roadies I hope you are all having a good weekend. We are away for a couple of days, and I am sitting in front of the fire with a glass of AF wine. I'll be going to bed soon, but thought I'd pop in and say hello. I was at my creative writing class yesterday, and afterwards I called in at the...

Re: Insomnia/Sleeplessness

Thanks both. Yes, Lushie, I know what you mean about feeling like you're being punished for being sober. I keep reading about how people find the best thing about stopping drinking is sleeping like a baby, and I really envy them. Once I'm asleep it's not too bad (if I do wake up to go to the loo, or...

Re: Insomnia/Sleeplessness

I did consciously try it, but I think it was when I had recently stopped drinking, which may not have been the best time, so it might be a good idea to start it again. I've just refreshed my memory on it, and do most of the recommended things anyway. I don't always get up when I can't sleep, but I d...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Evening, Roadies :\: There are some lovely posts on here these days. I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend. The wind is very strong here, and a storm is predicted for tomorrow, so I don't have many plans. I might go to Chinatown on Sunday to see the dragon parade for Chinese New Year, bu...
