Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hello again, and hi Shadowlad :) I have been to the doctor, and have been diagnosed with moderate to sever osteoarthritis. So not connected to the liver all all. I can't take a lot of painkillers, so we are looking at physio and/or knee replacements down the line. I had x rays taken, and will see th...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Thanks for understanding, everyone <:)> . Rachel, LFTs are not particularly reliable, other than for a first line hint that something is wrong. The markers can be fairly normal in someone with damage, and anyway, if I don't get appointments, they don't get done. From my own obsessive Googling, I wou...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hi SB Yes, you're right. It's a fine line between being vigilant about symptoms and over-reacting. There is also the shame factor, which is huge for me. I can't bear to tell people what is wrong, and ridiculous as it might sound, I even worry about what will go on my death certificate (even if that ...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hi Soberboots No, it's not a case of wanting to drink. I know we can't see into the future, but I honestly can't imagine going back there. My test results weren't as bad as they might have been (no ascites, for instance), but I really don't know how bad it is. The consultant said that it doesn't mat...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Thanks Topcat and smh.

I do have liver disease, yes. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis a couple of years ago. I haven’t had a drink since, and on the whole I feel reasonably ok, but it is always in my mind.

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hello, beyonders! How is everyone doing? I am having a bit of a wobble, to be honest. I haven’t had a drink for nearly 2 years, and I’m ok with that, but I am sick of living in fear of my liver failing. I don’t have too many symptoms, but every little thing makes me think it is the start of the decl...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi Linda Please don’t take anything such as Liv52 without the sayso of your consultant. Detoxing is the most important thing now; but do keep posting - while detoxing if you can, but definitely when you are through it. There is a lot of support on here, and no judgement. It’s a lot to take in, but t...

A quick shout out to Mike. How’s it going? You posted a couple of months ago and disappeared. I read a lot of your posts before joining in here, and found them really helpful.

Let us know how you are getting on?

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Good to hear you’re doing ok suedenim. How much sleep do you get? Does it affect your wellbeing? How are you feeling generally? Thanks for the kind comments, roadies. I get very little sleep, Winkler. Sometimes it's just a couple of hours a night, which catches up after a while. Luckily, I don't ha...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi roadies! It’s good to read so many hopeful posts. I haven’t been around for a while, as I don’t often feel that I have anything helpful to say. I am still struggling with insomnia, but am approaching 2 years AF, with no real struggle at all. I have liver damage, so I know I can’t drink. Much as I...

Hi Les21. I replied to you on another thread, but welcome again :D. Mike! I feel I know you, although we have never 'met'. I read every post on here before signing up, and your posts were so helpful and informative. I'm sorry you're back, because of what that signifies; but I'm pleased you are posti...

Hi Les21 You've come to the right place. There are lots of people here who will understand, and try to help if the can, without judging. Have you looked about the site? A lot of people like to start with the 7 day challenge; but it's not for everyone's see what you think millwork for you. The good t...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hello! I know what you mean about the pictures of wine. I think it’s worse on the screen as they look more realistic. I know that substitutes aren’t everyone’s thing, so ignore me if they are not for you; but I like them, and I wondered if those of you who also do have come across zeroholic? They ar...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Avocado, good luck with your appointment. Taken on its own, one liver function result doesn't mean a lot - a doctor will need to look at it in relation to the others you will have had done at the same time. The good thing is that you have recognised a problem, and are ready to do something about it....

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi Lee 74656 Going out after work was my downfall, too, so I completely understand. It is all too easy to 'go for a drink' after a hard day, to discuss it all with friends, or to plan projects, or socialise with clients; but it soon becomes a habit. Like you, I had a long commute, so the drink would...
