Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Yeah I get that Sue. I didn't like to use the shame word - we sort of know it's not shameful, or shouldn't be, but in our society it's very hard not to feel it. It's what I meant anyway, when I talked about you having to live with your past addiction in more forceful way than those of us who've been...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Sue, I'm glad the AV isn't doing it's thing, the little bugger! I didn't mean to suggest that you don't have cause to be worried. It's the fact that it seems hard to switch the worry off even though you know that it won't achieve anything, and the extent to which it's affecting your enjoyment of lif...

Re: PAWS (Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome)

Helloooo Think I might be having a bout of PAWS been reading around about it. I know this is a not very often used thread but I would be interested to hear people's experiences of PAWS if you don't mind sharing? Yeah I've had two bouts, one just after my 1st year anniversary and one a few months la...

Re: The 1 Year Milestone

I always like your signature line about the tree. So, since I planted two new Apple trees last week, I officially name them Sober and Boots, to remind me of you, BE, and the many people here.
Aww g-man! That's the nicest thing, and has made my day!

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Hi Sue. I often think of you. When I was drinking, and for the first year afterwards when I was too terrified of the answer to get my liver function tested, I was so scared of what damage I might be doing to myself. Yet, like many another addict, the anxiety only made me drink even more! It's such a...

Re: Sober June

Great attitude TS, and glad you had a nice evening. It's still something of a shock to me to realise that a lot of people really aren't that bothered about drinking - I was so obsessed with it myself, and surrounded myself with other drinkers, that I lost touch with this reality.

Re: The 1 Year Milestone

So, I finally got the nerve to post instead of just bottling things up. Really good to hear from you g-man. I often think of you. I'm so sorry about your family situation, I remember there were isuues you posted about before. It seems almost worse to deal with when children are adults, in theory th...

Re: General Support and Chat

Hi there, I’ve got meeting with my line manager on Friday, she’s always been supportive but recently I was diagnosed with cirrhosis and been feeling down and generally exhausted, Wanting to get back to work but feeling overwhelmed if I’m gonna be fit to get back to full time hours Linda x Could you...

Re: Sober June

So what do people generally do to mark there anniversary? Well, my 18 month sober present to myself was an excellent pair of boots, hence my user name! I strted out by counting days, then weeks, then months, and I would reward myself on milestones. Not necessarily big things - a few handmade chocol...

Re: Sober June

We do this in phases mate, we distance ourselves from our last drink, we distance ourselves from our next, we come to terms, we forgive, we move on, we have something worth getting out of bed for in the morning ;)?
Love this Newtie!

Re: Sober June

I think this is the first year I have sobbed my heart out but it's also the first year I've been sober hmmm maybe there's a connection!!! Definitely - I believed that I "needed to drink" partly because of the pain and stress of bereavement - however all I did was to stop the grieving process in its...

Re: The 1 Year Milestone

When I was struggling at the beginning of this journey, a friend told me to make a call at 1 year and see how I felt. I assume he thinks things will be fine by then? Either way, I’ve got that target in mind and am (like you) planning on having a drink then too. I already know that that will be a to...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hello PP, thank you for such a heartfelt and thought-provoking post. I want to say that you've not been completely sober for that long, not drinking takes priority, don't take on too much, and all the other things that we (rightly) say to complete newbies. But I think what you're identifying is a lo...

Re: What Has Made You Happy/Angry/Sad/Proud/Grateful Today?

Lovely posts to read this morning. This may sound silly, but I'm grateful for my garden pond! I've set it up mostly for wildlife, and it just looks so good at the moment - clear water, lots of native plants doing their stuff, a stunning water lily about to flower, and it's full of enchanting froglet...

Re: Sober June

Hi people! Hope you don’t mind me popping up here, my usual challenge thread aren't showing much sign of life and I’m trying to stop talking to myself! Soberboots - I was very indignant about your friend offering you wine but then I wondered if she’s completely up to speed with where you are now. I...

Re: Depression, Bipolar and Other Personality Issues.

Thanks again Martha, my biggest worries are getting someone to sign for my driver's licence and PIP applications, thinking that a bad reference is worse than no reference (only one from my gp). Spoke to my advocate today, so she's gonna come with me next time I see him. Ruby xx Hope the advocate's ...
