Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Interesting Tai, it has worked that way for me too. I couldn't get sober until I recognised and accepted that I was addicted. It also relieved the same - it stopped being "my" problem, my weakness and failure, and became something that I shared with millions of others - in other words, I stopped "ha...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

I’ve not been able to properly understand the reasons for failing after a week I often did too Bobby - I'd mange 3,4,5,6 and sometimes 7 days then I'd slide. I didn't get over this pattern until I a) accepted that I was addicted b) got to understand a lot more about psychological withdrawal. Everyo...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hello Bobby, and welcome. There's a saying "be selfish in your sobriety" which makes the point that sobriety is all about you - your health, your choices. Peer pressure about alcohol is very strong, and so are societal pressures - our culture normalises the dangerous use of a highly addictive damagi...

Re: The 1 Year Milestone

Jj123, great idea to mark your anninersary. I usually buy myself something significant (like the special pair of boots that now give me my name on here) but an experience is also a great idea. I'd also spend a bit of time preparing for the next year. Anniversaries can be funny times, and a time when...

I'm from "up north" in Galicia
I'm in UK, have just adopted a rescue dog from Galicia. Place called Lugo, where apparently there was a dog hoarder who had accumulated 90 dogs all living in rough conditions in a compound. Mine's one of the first to be removed.

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hello Noob and welcome. any minor frustration and it's downhill again. Really good to identify that. When I stopped drinking I realised that I basically had no coping skills at all. Some I'd just never developed (I started drinking young) others had eroded over time. I had the ability to tolerate an...

Welcome Nik. My best advice is to just concentrate on yourself. Give yourself a period of sobriety, get support on here and elsewhere.

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi Eagle-eyed, welcome to BE!It's a good place to reflect on your relationship with alcohol. Which doesn't sound good, TBH. I worked my way through a self help programme called the Easy Way by Allen Carr a few years ago. It really helped me change my midset about drinking, so I always recommend it. ...
