Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Leslans, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Animals are part of our family, part of us. Really glad that you are able to process this in the way that you are, grieving hurts, but it's a necessary journey to healing, and one we can't take if we're drinking.

Re: The Wobble Board

Avocado, I did Allen Carr a second time on the advice of my psychiatrist (who also used Allen Carr to get sober himself, but that's another story!). I was a bit in a "tried that and it didn't work" mindset, but he pointed out that it had helped - I'd had a short sober spell, and anyway maybe the boo...

Re: The Wobble Board

Hi Avocado, I think rock-bottom is in some ways a misleading phrase. The point where we accept we simply can't go on as we are, and must therefore a try another way, is very different for everyone. The day I hit that wasn't different in itself from any other day, the cahnge was an internal one. I ho...

Re: Depression, Bipolar and Other Personality Issues.

Hey there Avocado. It's true that alcohol counteracts anti-depressants. For me, the depression started to lift quite soon, but unevenly. I felt noticeably brighter within a week, but for quite a long time I would have random crying jags, and my sleep took ages to settle properly. Alcohol does neurol...

Re: The Wobble Board

Really sorry Avocado. Alcohol really is the pits, isn't it? I remember the utter misery it induced so well - yet I clung onto it for ages. It's not long since you were sober and feeling great, so you know that you can there again. Today's just one day - it's a miserable one but it will pass. Please ...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Welcome Tad, welcome Jess! Tad, hang in there. These are withdrawal symptoms, and they WILL pass - however if you cave in and drink you'll be back to square 1. Treat yourself as if you have flu - keep warm, rest, have fluids (things like soup can be really good as you need some salts, minerals etc),...

Lushie <:)> So tough. I'm sure it would be alovely thing for your sister if you went to stay with her, and knowing you're doing that might ease some of the sting for you? Maybe you could think about some silly things you used to to do or eat at Christmas as children, and resurrect those? Or think of...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi Great to be part of the group. I don’t drink every day...I can go 3-4 days without a problem. But on day 4/5 I struggle to stop. I want to get things under control so days 4/5 aren’t out of control. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for reading and looking forward to being part of your family ;)? We...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

I'm dealing with is sobriety the same thing as abstinence. My addled brain is saying you are still sober after 2 beers after all. Someone told me that I may be able to consider that at 12 months , but before that it is very risky. Hiya, to me abstinence is not the same as sobriety. However, abstine...
