Re: 100 Day Kickstart

Been offline for a while - techno glitch ()o but back on it again. Ditto to SF and AF but back on it again Monday 23/3 - 1st day of self isolation. So now on day 6. By my calculations 3 month lock down and rest of March will bring me to end of 100 day challenge. So ... here goes \:)/ Good luck ever...

Re: Sober March

Not too bad so far Hark, but then I've had a very busy week. Quiet day today but I'm enjoying reading and catching up with TV. I'm waiting for the hail showers to stop so I can get out for a walk. I had to cut my own fringe this morning - it was all getting in my eyes. I had a sorely needed hairdres...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Lovely to hear from you Fiz! I'm so glad you're feeling better. Walking was part of my recovery from severe PTSD and has continued through my sober journey. It's my version of mindfulness I think. The combination of immersion in nature and the rythm of walking is very powerful.

Re: Sober March

I'm here too! I've been madly busy doing volunteering - I'm shopping and prescription-collecting for 9 households plus my own, which given sanitising, queuing, and shortages is quite a task, on top of work. I've just done a round of this, and plan putting my feet up for the rest of the day! I feel s...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

God, I'd have used this as an excuse to drown myself in drink in the old days. I was thinking about it today - I've been out doing vital shopping and picking up prescriptions for very vulnerable people, feeling useful in my community. And also appreciating with extra sharpness this glorious spring. ...

Re: COVID-19 Support & Chat

Oh that's a tough one CB. If there's no other alternative, then I'd say the best bet is for you and your wife to self-isolate as much as possible other than these trips to reduce the risk, and be scupulous about cleaning. As Winkler says, there's is a small risk that any driver could transmit the vi...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

I just need support and help. Morning Pete! Welcome to BE. Your drinking level is about the same as mine was. I used to worry mainly about physical damage, and felt terrible shame about it too. I did know I was miserable, but it wasn't actually until I'd been stopped for quite a while that I fully ...

Re: The Book Club

Luna, you can reset the Kindle - people who buy them secondhand have to of course, and I inherited my Dad's old one when he died and went through the process then.
I've just bought Hilary Mantel's latest on the kindle - the paper version's a brick!

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

The GP has prescribed some anti anxiety medication to be ready tomorrow. There is a dilemma related to going to get it though as it is an exposure risk albeit small. We live with my partner's 90 year old mother so she is vulnerable. I asked for my repeat prescription of blood pressure medication to...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Saturn, please minimise your reading about the crisis. Allow yourself one mainstream news programme a day to stay up to date, but otherwise stop news, Covid related social media, and research. The pandemic is a much higher risk to most people's mental health than it is to their physical health! Why ...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

I'm new here so consider this my introduction. I've quit alcohol before for short periods of time (3,5,7 days or so) but today is day 40 for me. I was hoping to at least see some subtle changes like a boost in energy but I've never been so tired in my life. I understand that everyone reacts differe...

Re: COVID-19 Support & Chat

That's really interesting Newtie.

Wilson - thanks you! Alcohol does mess with your immune system, so sobriety's the best medicine. I'm not too worried about catching it - more about transmitting it. I'm doing shopping and collecting prescriptions for people who are self-isolating.

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

I'm excited to hopefully start a new chapter of my life sober and fresh and be able to enjoy everything without thinking about wine Welcome CFlo! Great attitude you've got there! Don't let the bastard alcohol ruin your life - you've been tricked into thinking it's your friend, when it isn't. You an...

Re: COVID-19 Support & Chat

Freshie, your insurance should cover it because of the Foreign Office advice.

I had a bit of a dry cough last night  really hard to know how to react. I don't feel ill ATM. But many people are more or less asymptomatic but still carry it. I am also a bit asthmatic and often cough anyway....

Re: Sober March

Morning all! Gorgeous day here. I'm due to meet an old friend today - we'll have to go for a walk at a suitable social distance rather than our planned lunch out. She sounds like she's coping well - many people aren't! I spent most of yesterday talking to very anxious people, and an acquaintance who...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi Winkler I wish this whole situation was just making me feel a bit flat. I feel a sense of constant terror from waking to fitful sleeping. There is no temptation to drink, I can realistically see that wouldn't help. The drinking days seem another world away now. I don't know if my reaction is nor...
