Re: General Support and Chat
Hi Swordie, Stewart, just thought I'd drop in to say and I'm so impressed with how you're doing! Swordie, I feel your pain - have a new fridge freezer coming toda, could have done without that hole in my budget! Stewart, I'm glad you're finding AC helpful. I went through it twice, and suggest a revi...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello! I'm new here and I just ruined my life because of alcohol. I got kicked out of my job, because my colleagues have rarely seen my sober, my gf left my recently for the same reason. I'm 25 and I've been drinking since I was 16. I want to try and use this forum to take my life in my own hands. ...

my Liver isn't working that well anymore Sounds terrifying  Also sounds like you're doing the right thing, and well done for reaching out here too. Stewart, welcome back. Hello - I'm new to this and admitting that I'm alcohol dependent/alcoholic.. Never admitted that publicly... I am holding down a decent job but losing my family, I have a youngish fam 10 and 15.... I need to sort this but with stress I keep falling off... Not binge drinking but constant... I feel w...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.
I have a problem. I am on the road to abstinence and recently reached a year AF, the first long stretch of its kind in many years. However. I don't feel amazing. I've never experienced the pink cloud. I don't feel I look better and I don't know if my health has improved or not. On a daily basis, I ...

Re: So what'ya drink instead?
Tried Sainsburys AF red wine at a very reasonable £2.75 today. Not bad at all ;)? I normally get a Marks and Sparks AF merlot, but this one is better (and cheaper) ;)? I like the Natureo brand, but it's a little tricky to get - Waitrose have it and Sainsbury's superstores. I've got it on my Amazon ...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.
I don't think I enjoyed recovery like this in the past. I always felt like I was giving up (sacrificing) something rather than gaining (or regaining) something far more special. Anyway, back to talk of holidays! Because my wife's away for most of the summer, I suddenly thought the other day that I m...

Doing good Nick! Clean sheets, lovely! I remember starting to enjoy food again - your meal sounds fab. It's often suggested that in the first few days you treat yourself as if you had flu - fluids, rest, eat when you can, don't expect too much of yourself.

Rooting for you Nick!
I found it helped me to think of the withdrawal signs (poor sleep, sweats, upset bowels, shakes for me) as the poison leaving my body. You need never go through this again - it can be a one way street, not a roundabout.

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here
Yeah I remember from the 8 million other times I've stopped, get to day 5, feel better and drink again!!! Oh yes, I know that pattern! Allen Carr talks about the little monster and the big monster, and the way I came to think of it is that the little monster is all the withddrawal symptoms. We get ...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here
I did gain from a good number of his ideas. I just didn't realise it at the time. There's often a lot of resistance at work too. Even if consciously we know that alcohol isn't our friend, convincing the deeper part of our minds takes some doing! After my first working through of Allen Carr, I reall...
