Just wanted to say 'Hi and welcome' to Clara and also thanks to Stephen and all the posters for your helpful posts in answer to my question about 'how to avoid drinking at the weekend/go longer than a week 7/8 days'
Have a great week. ;)

Re: SOS - Post here if you need help (NO GENERAL CHAT PLEASE)

Longest I've been without drinking 8 days. Was calmer before I did it. Have suffered from depression for years anyway even before drinking..I don't like the weekends. Even when I am with people they can drag or be stressful. It's like I look forward to that weekend binge and think 'well I've done my...

Re: Alcohol and dental health

My dentist used to say my teeth were excellent. So I didn't bother going for years. Then I had to have a ROOT CANAL. Two injections but the pain was not good (sorry). I used to drink every day and sometimes be lazy and not always brush my teeth after. I think the sugar may have accumulated.I had a b...

Re: Plan ahead, be aware of dangerous situations

Good post fuzzyduck I have been binged on drink twice lately. The worrying thing is I got COMPLACENT with my drinking-I wasn't drinking every day any more-hey I'm OK,that type of thing.Really I was craving that first taste. The first occasion was when I met a friend who had come over for a while, the...

Re: CO-DEPENDENCY...information for All

Thanks for that first post (and the others!) I often find this Co-Dependency thing hard to get my head round. My BF is abusive in different ways (mostly mentally). But we both drink but I would say are not alcoholics. I think I am right in saying I am co-dependent on him, maybe not the other way roun...

Re: Drug treatments for alcoholism and depression

I have also been on Citaprolam for over 6 months 10 mg a day. I had depression before drinking-while at school. Drinking every day (even small amounts) didn't help my mood the next day,I felt tired and not good at work. However,I can honestly say since taking the meds consistently (I was on others a...

Re: So what'ya drink instead then?

I like Horlicks, Ovaltine and low cal chocolate drinks- you can get all these in individual sachets if you like and even low fat choc Horlicks etc. Good to settle down with at night and comforting. Not all need milk either. Like some others here I also dislike sweet drinks, I personally find J20's s...

Re: Cutting Down

Pink Panther's words struck a chord with me- not focusing on the negative, 'poor me' etc. This was a big problem in me cutting down alcohol and continuing to do so. I tend towards low self esteem and depression. I changed those negative thoughts in my head which said: 'How can I NOT drink/have a nig...

Re: Cutting Down

Thank you for that post Mike, I for one found it very useful. I agree with what you say. I have always had trouble for example, on the headache/migraine front. Particularly with wine. After drinking some of an evening my head will bang and bang. The next day, I can often hardly lift my head off the p...

Re: Cutting Down

Interesting thread. I am not sure I want to quit but it worries me that I probably don't have the willpower/strength anyway. From being young I drank weekends and maybe 1 day a week socially. Then indoor drinking and also out. Jumped up to 3 cans beer a night or most of a bottle of wine as a female ...

Re: NEW MEMBERS - PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE

Hi to everyone Rather tired today. Been drinking about 20 years. I was only ever allowed 1 glass of wine at home with the parents when young, soon as I got hold of more I would binge drink. I don't binge all the time but still it's my choice to keep drinking at all. And I am challenging that now. Lo...
