Re: Breaking the cycle/gaining traction

Hey Momoofgirls, Yes its Allen Carr 'Easyway to control drinking' Good luck with it. Very powerful words in there. Has become somewhat of a bible for me during quits. The irony is why i continue to creep back to bingeing even after being blessed with the words therein. I put it down to 1. stupidity ...

Re: Three Week Challenge

lil13 - that's great Just thought. The difference last night was that I did not feel I was being denied anything. On the contrary I was being given a very funny and fun evening . And Alex - good to see you are doing fine in Jan. I know what you mean about associating certain friends with booze. Wis...

Hey All, Really interesting reading on this thread. Love it. Re: Healings last comment. Have you tried reading Allen Carr. I would recommend it, alot of folks on here have and he's really helped give me perspective everytime I've tried to quit. You say that last time you quit for 6 months (superb ef...

Re: 2011 - Let's do it sober!!!

For example 1) plan on those wasted days following heavy drinking when you get nothing done - zero; 2) plan on the post drinking days that your brain isn't functioning as good and you need more time to accomplish chores - work and domestic; 3) plan on the time you need to plan for keeping your drin...

Re: Supportive Partners

Hey Zara, Thanks for that <:)> I hear you. For me its completely associative like that. All about the environment im in and the people. Not one to crave drink on my own (although im not judging anyone who does btw! x) but I just get the itches at weekends. Sometimes I miss one weekend and its great ...

Re: Are you drinking now ?

AlexT, my belief is that this game is less about about self control, and more about acceptance that alcohol and I do not mix. Could it be useful for you to reframe your "struggle" in this way? Hey both Bela and bubbysmum thankyou for that. You know what, that makes absolute and total sense, far eas...

Re: Allen Carr's Book

ah ok, I'm about 4 chapters from the end. I just think back to when I have drank and been unhappy its because I want my senses dulled and to drink the 'pain' away (sounds so melodramatic) and if get like that I can't see how anyone would stop me but thats when I'm really really unhappy. But I've no...

Re: Friends, old and new

Hey All, lots of interesting posts on here as usual (lovely to read with my nice earl grey cuppa :) Friends are a tricky one. Like attracts like and after 20 years of heavy drinking, you tend to find your social circle with nothing but enablers, or I certainly have at any rate. Its like that crappy ...

Re: What happens if I try to have "just one?"

I can never have just one. I don't even ever think "just one". I know that it is drunkeness I crave. Oblivion. Lost weekends. Weeks of mental loss. And I have done all that. I have used up all my units. I have had my fill of that type of 'fun'. I can tell you all the stories - funny, frightening, f...

Re: interacting with people who drink

Hey all, Some really interesting posts in here. Having not spent more than 5 weeks off the booze in the last 20 years im very much looking forward to finally cracking it this time. What I find the hardest time and time again when quitting is the reaction of friends and people you know. Yes I know tr...
