Re: SOS - Post here if you need Help (No General Chat Please

This is the SOS thread and often the first port of call for people in a bad way and new to the forum. Perhaps this discussion would be better taken elsewhere now?

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi Geordielad, My advice to you would be to try to cut it out. If you're frequently drinking to blackout it sounds to me like you serious;y need to look at this and not risk your safety and health further by attempting to 'cut down'. Of course you can't stop thinking about it, that's natural, but it...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

I've seen countless times from both my own experience and by watching other's just how hard it is to get things back on track if/when we do have a drink. Kind of awakens the monster within. Hi Jos, So true and something to remember when the going gets tough. I'm now in no doubt that alcoholism is p...

Re: SOS - Post here if you need Help (No General Chat Please

Hi Janey,
We've not spoken before. Sounds like things are very difficult right now. I've sent you a pm but I thought I'd say hi here too. Sounds like you could really use someone to talk to love

Re: Can you see the liver from outside the body?

Dear Friend of Tosh, Yes you can, my friend could see the outline of her liver towards the end of her drinking. She's now 2 years sober and the picture of health. It's a serious sign that you need to stop drinking (I don't know your story, you may have already stopped). Good luck and get all the hel...

Re: NEW MEMBERS - Please Introduce Yourself (on the last pag

Welcome Andrew - browse away as much as you like. I'll be surprised if you don't find something that rings a bell, all of us do when we first come here. It can be quite a relief to find common ground with others, and it certainly helps to talk it through. Feel free to post wherever you like, just ju...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

Hi everyone, Thanks Jos <:)> I just thought I'd say a little bit about what's going on with me. I always thought that if I started drinking again it would take me a while to get back into the hang of it. I thought I'd probably be drunk after two glasses of wine. Turns out I was wrong. Turns out it's...

Re: What to do instead of drinking

Lovely art work Tink, lovely subtle colours <:)> Well done on your 8 months, and well done on maintaining a proactive interest in something - what a bonus that it's something that you're obviously very talented at. I think it's a huge help to recovery to have a focus, especially one that's such a pa...

Re: Hello all!

On day 34 tonight with no booze...! passed another 'psychological' hurdle...G/F away in Europe for a week...Normal behaviour pattern....on dropping her off at Airport straight on the vodka...sort of being 'naughty' & feeling crap after doing this until she returns...! Not any more! Hi Lourson, That...

Re: Cutting Down

Hi Dawn, Look, tell me to get lost and that it's none of my business. But if after 'battling' to quit drinking and not achieving it. Does it really seem a sensible option at this point to 'cut down'. I am not wishing to get involved in any argument of abstinence v Cutting down, but I strongly believ...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

I'm finding it hard to find words at the moment. It feels like I've got so much going on in my head that posting my views will just serve to confuse me further. It will pass, this is something I know. It will pass as along as I don't drink. Zoe <:)> I loved those long essays - I have found much to h...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

Thanks for that post Tony. As always you don't dress it up, why should you? Alcoholism is not pretty. I wish to God I'd properly acknowledged my problem many years ago. The years I wasted waiting for my life to start whilst nursing a bucket of wine don't bear thinking about. I'm not ashamed to say I...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

A friend of mine has just started writing a blog - I was showing it to my daughter last night, and I said to her that I wouldn't mind my own blog. She said : well why don't you just write one then mum? My reply: I don't know what I'd write about. Her reply: Do what that bloke in the Guardian does mu...

Re: The Road to Abstinence

I think I've got my big toe firmly on the abstinence road (hurrah). First morning for a long time where I've not felt like just staying under the duvet. Sending out positive vibes to all you lovely people on this thread. Bela - I've missed you little penguin <:)> Zelda, good to see you back, hope yo...

Re: I Will Not Drink Today Because..............

I will not drink today because it's the first day in a long time where I've woken up and not felt afraid to face the world. I might go back to feeling rubbish tomorrow, but I'd be an idiot to jeopardise today.

Re: The Confession Parlour...

Dear Tee, Aren't people generally the rudest buggers. Sometimes I have to force myself to keep my mouth shut when confronted with such cretins (and there are a lot of them about). There are people (clearly not including ourselves in this), that can go merrily (excuse the use of merrily here) on thei...

Absolutely spot on. Imagine what tomorrow would be like if we drank today.
