Re: The First 7 Days

day 5 here. and doing remarkably well. I've had a productive day, done loads of housework(still got loads more to do) I've been asked round to someone's house for a drink and refused, it wasn't even hard to refuse - I Don't Want To!! I really, really don't want my old life - this is so much nicer. I...

Re: The First 7 Days

Hi Penny I'm struggling with the same issue at the moment, and worry about the same things that you are - who to tell, should I tell, how do I excuse not drinking. At the moment, I haven't told anybody in "real life" - I'm not ready to and not sure I ever will be. My social circle all revolves aroun...

Re: I managed it without a drink!

Phunky I'm feeling the same way, I have a social thing tonight everyone else attending are drinkers - two of my drinkning partners will be there. I know they will press it on me if they notice me not drinking. I've tried thinking up some tactics..... buying non-alcoholic wine and decanting it into a...

Re: I Will Not Drink Today Because..............

Because I love my daughter so much, because I want to have her respect and my self respect, because I want to set her the RIGHT example for once and hopefully show her that being drunk & hangovers are not "normal" behaviour, because I don't want to lose my job, because I never EVER want to wake up a...

Re: The place to say "I haven't had a drink today" .

I haven't had a drink today, and I ordered takeaway - definitely one of my triggers. Feeling good about that, but not great, still only day 2 and I know resolve can slip over time.....and the weekend looms!

Re: The First 7 Days

Thanks Lynn, it really does help when somebody recognises what I'm going through or how I'm feeling about myself and about drink, and yes it would be great to help each other - we're both on day 2 so lets do it together. ;)? I've decided to take the pressure off myself for Today, I'm not ringing AA ...

Re: BE Roadmap and Navigation Tips

Ah right, I see. Thanks for the info Neal ;)? I had wanted to start a thread asking if anyone else had a "normaliser" (in my case my best friend) who has a drink problem themselves and tries to normalise your behaviour so that a) you carry on drinking with them and b)They wont have to face up to the...

Re: The First 7 Days

Day 2 today and also a Thursday, the usual start of my weekend drinking. I don't feel like having a drink though, so I think I might be ok today. I'm definitely going to stay away from my "partner in crime", as she normalises it - says it's ok - and it really isn't ok to drink till I humiliate mysel...

Re: The First 7 Days

HI, I guess I belong in this thread now, day 1 down and onto day2. I've been up since 2am, anxiety levels quite high - I know it will pass but just wish I could fast forward to the time when it has passed. Some of the things I've been told that I did are just so shameful and keep playing on my mind. ...

Re: family history - does drinking run in your family?

Yes it absolutely runs in my family, my grandfather died through drink, grandmother drank everyday right up until she died, mother recovering alcoholic plus lots of other family members. This is one of the reasons I'm scared of going to AA, even though I really want to at least try it. I know of at ...

Re: NEW MEMBERS - Please Introduce Yourself (on the last pag

Thanks to everyone for the kind and understanding welcome :) I spent most of yesterday on the phone to a wonderful lady from AA, I'm still not convinced that AA is for me - and I have lots of valid reasons for feeling that way. But one thing I do know is that I can't do this alone, I've tried and fa...

Re: NEW MEMBERS - Please Introduce Yourself (on the last pag

hello posting in here after finding you on google. To put it bluntly, I'm a disgrace :( I've no recollection at all of most of yesterday, my niece told me that I came home at 5pm and that I was wrecked. I woke up in someone elses house, I have a fat lip and a sore hip so I know I fell over at some p...
