Re: how much did you drink......

....... six 12-oz cans of beer and one bottle of wine each evening between 5 PM and 9 PM. I would then stumble to bed, wake with my head in an aching fog, go to work, and then do it all again.

Sober is better; much better.

Re: I Will Not Drink Today Because..............

Way to do it well Linda and thanks for sharing your experience and perspectives. Tom, good to know you're enjoying the morning as well. With the exception of alcohol I'm pretty good with moderation. It's becoming clear that for me, moderation and booze will never get acquainted. That's why I will no...

Re: KEEPING IN TOUCH ON THE FORUM

Hey Linda (KS), hope you are enjoying your vacation. I just finished a book that I thought you would enjoy. The Shack (William P. Young) is one the most powerful books that I've read. Keep in touch.

Welcome Jersey. I like your approach; focusing on what sobriety brings to life is much more effective for me than lamenting what I am giving up. Good to cross paths with you as well BE; a wonderful sober day to you

Re: I Will Not Drink Today Because..............

Hey Linda, very pleased to know that you are doing well. I too want to put a stop to this and get on with living in a real world. I finished Mark Hamill's "A Drinking Life" last night. He stopped drinking when he decided to stop being a performer in life and to start living life. Steve (and Willy to...

Re: The Book Club

Caroline, Sorry that The Complaints didn't hold your attention. It does get less bleak; actually triumphant later. I am reading Caroline Knapp's book now. I find it a less dramatic than Dry, but more introspective and more personally useful. A couple of her perspectives speak to me and my situation:...

Re: The Book Club

Hello Caroline, I finished Dry this weekend. After reading "Goodbye Mr. Wonderful" and "Dry" I can't say that memoirs written by alcohol abusers are enjoyable but they do intensely illuminate the dark path of addiction more so than any health sciences or government publications. I don't believe that...

Re: The Book Club

' happy to answer to either Caroline. I'd not read Ian Rankin before The Complaints so I was not disappointed by a new main character. I did hear about the book during a radio interview that touched on the minor uproar following the disappearance of Rebus. Peaceful reading, Caroline; I hope you are ...

Re: The Book Club

First AA meeting went well. After trying and failing for a decade to be a "moderate" drinker, walking into AA was more relief than stress. After a long time of having my butt kicked by booze, it seems that I've recently won a bout or two. The secret? Don't let it out of the bottle!

Re: SOS - Post here if you need Help (No General Chat Please

Hello Linda, I too have a good job, family, and few would guess that I usually pour 10 units of alcohol down my gullet each evening between dinner and bed. Though I've known that this is a problem I've lived with it for years because I was worried that if I solved the problem I would never be able t...

Re: The Book Club

My internal dialogue after experiencing Days of Wine and Roses goes something like this: 1) You've been playing a very dangerous game; if you don't stop you will soon go down very hard. 2) It's time to stop scratching around with this problem; if you let it, it wil destroy you. 3) Life is better sob...

Re: The Book Club

Just finished The Days of Wine and Roses and I'm stunned. I'm looking at all the white on the screen and though I try, I can think of nothing more to say.

I can say that I just ordered "Dry" and "Drinking - A Love Story". Not in our library; thank the Lord for eBay.

You're welcome Caroline, ' hope things are well. I would like to know your perspective on "The Complaints" if you get around to reading it. Re: I Will Not Drink Today Because..............

You've an eye for dogs, Linda. That is "Willy" an Aussie / border collie mix (we're not fussy about blood lines here in the mountains). He is a strange and wonderful creature. Since we never got around to teaching him a useful trade, he taught himself to fetch. When there is no one about to throw fo...
