Re: The To Do List

Ha pickles, by polished, I mean that we had a chap round to sand them, fill in the cracks, stain, varnish and polish them. They have not been polished since :)

Re: The To Do List

I have polished floorboards throughout most of my house and I seem to be constantly sweeping the sitting room. It never used to be like this...? Obviously everything gets more dirty more quickly when we are at home all the time. My biggest bugbear are the bathroom taps. We have hard water and you ne...

Re: The To Do List

I have never known it be hot (in the UK) and rarely known it be nice on my birthday, Pickles.

Not as hot as last two days, but still hot. I have had my fan on.

Re: The To Do List

Gosh Jjjj, that's quite serious isn't it? Good think you went to A&E although being there til 5am sounds horrendous. Thanks Action. I am supposed to be going on holiday on Monday. This is actually adding to my anxiety - leaving the cats for more than one night for the first time since Christmas (the...

Re: The To Do List

I keep wondering if I have very bad luck with things. I imagine it's more getting older, and the people you know getting older. Bad things happen, healthwise. BIL (who has a life-shortening illness and is currently unwell) is young though. I respect and support our uncle's intentions on this. I just...

Re: The To Do List

Aw thanks for the birthday wishes and cake!

I filled a raised bed with homemade compost. No mean feat! Managed to sit in the sun for a bit. Had a nap.

Uncle wants to go down the assisted suicide route...

Re: The To Do List

p.s. it's Holy Rude Rood (Cross) day today, for those religously inclined. I got limited mileage out of having my birthday on it, as a child, as most of my friends weren't religious (and how I used to hate that term). My sibling was born on the other Holy Cross day, which has long since been excised...

Re: The To Do List

I took a Nytol but was awake in the early hours again. He's in Brittany, Action. MIL will want us to take her I think, but we need to wait and see what's happening with him. He has three children and lots of grandchildren. Hopefully she will give them the space to go if they want to first. We don't ...

Re: The To Do List

We had a day trip today. Husband was in a foul mood. Then just got a phone call from his mother to say that her brother has been diagnosed wtih lung cancer and it's spread to the brain. OH is very fond of his uncle, as indeed am I. This is dreadful.

Re: The To Do List

 Our next door but one neighbours are having one of their late-night boozy bonfires again. The smoke goes straight into my bedroom. They usually keep it going till well past midnight, along with noise- shouting and shrieking. I think it has become a lockdown ritual for them. Mind you knowin...

Re: The To Do List

I hope today went better, Action. Almost no sleep is desperate. Warm milk really does do it for me, but it's a last resort. Not done much today. Basil to vets for a blood test this morning - got results already and he has stabilized. He somehow got wind of it though and hid. I don't know how. Lily m...

Re: The To Do List

I have not thoought it through Action, and I don't want to espouse pseudoscience. I just wondered if occasional drinking is like the intermittent reward and thus reinforces the behaviour, entrenching it more firmly. Someone must have done research on this...? But on the other hand maybe not. Maybe n...

Re: The To Do List

I think the lingering thought about drinking when stressed will last a lot longer than the inclination to act on it. It becomes like an annoying buzzing fly, which appears less and less with time. Not sure that I will get rid of it ever, but it is just annoying rather than dangerous. I don't think I...

Re: The To Do List

Anxiety and stress were a huge trigger for me - I too was wanting to numb bad feelings. On the rare occasion (can't remember last one) I've had a fleeting thought of 'I could do with a drink' it's been the anxiety, or occasionally the sudden release from anxiety. I don't actually want to drink at al...

Re: The To Do List

p.s. celeriac chips: just cut a peeled (not the easiest of jobs) celeriac into big chunky chips. Plunge into boiling water and cook for two minutes. Drain and toss in 2 tbsp of olive oil/or flavourless oil, a teapoon of celery salt and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Bake for 20-30 mins. (Mine stuck a bi...

Re: The To Do List

Salvias smell of sage...??!! :) Now basil can smell of cat pee. I brought some into the sitting room and kept thinking that Lily had peed behind the settee. Then I moved them back into the kitchen. We imagine we can smell things differently though. There are well documented things that we taste diff...
