Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Might it not simply be worrying about drinking...? Sorry if that sounds a bit facile. I used to have drinking dreams almost every night in the early months. (When I was constantly worried about relapsing.) They gradually petered out. I do still very very oocaisonally have one. It's quite insidious. ...

Re: The To Do List

Morning. I hope they talk went ok, Danny. Luna, I try not to look at myself below the neck in mirrors anywhere. I don't think this is a good thing. I keep telling myself that I have never been happy with my body - always thought it was too fat even when I was probably underweight, and doubtless it's...

Re: The To Do List

Morning. Nice and sunny and dry, Still abit windy. But they have cancelled all the trains on my route so will be late for work (but at least I noticed before I set off, as the next train after my usual is 25 minutes later.) Mon-day of no obligation (other than work) althlough I have already fed the ...

Re: The To Do List

I fell in love with it about three years after we moved in - when I stopped drinking. We moved in a couple of months after my father died, and I didn't really see it at all for a long while, then the alcoholism kicked in. It's Edwardian, with lots of original features/details. Cut out wooden fretwor...

Re: The To Do List

I hope I didn't sound rude, AJ. Afterwards I was pondering on why I have not wall room and thinking about previous kitchens. Last one was so tiny there was only room for two cupboards on one wall and nothing below. The opposite wall was the sink and window, and the other two walls were only a door's...

Re: General Support and Chat

You can get to the point where you don't think about it much at all, and when you do it's not dangerous. I don't think that means the battle is easier. It was traumatically hard for me in the first year, and I didn't begin to feel safe until about 6 months after my last drink. Six months is a well-d...

Re: The To Do List

There are few cars on the roads near our French place, Action, but slow-driving farm vehicles are an issue. AJ I am intrigued that you have (wall space for) pictures and a mirror in your kitchen! I can do nothing to rearrange my kitchen and if I had a brand new one I don't think it could be done muc...

Re: The To Do List

Yes it's paid, but I won't be taking it all in one go. You can also claim money in lieu if you want. I imagine when the owner dies/bows out we may lose this privilege. The only down side is that for at least couple of years after, it feels like you never have enough annual leave. Of course my husban...

Re: The To Do List

Not sure they want to keep me, but it's enshrined in the handbook (for now...) Their get out clause is to claim that someone doesn't deserve one, but I don't think they've ever done this.

Parakeets in the tree at the bottom of our garden. (And indeed on my bird feeder.)

60 days sabbatical 😍
May have got my sums wrong, but = about 3 months in total including weekends and annual leave. We (all) have one every seven years.

Re: The To Do List

We could do with a new kitchen. The (not very attractive) outer frames (the things the doors and drawer fronts are attached to rather than the more fundmental framework) for the units are beginning to come away. Yes, the disruption is off-putting, affect on cats, but most of all the cost...! I am wo...

Re: The To Do List

Goodness that must have been quite an explosion, Jjjj. I used to live in Tufnell park... (but c. 1987. Was in Archway/Upper Holloway, up the road for two years '88-90 too.) I was working at the Virgin Megastore when the IRA were active in the very late '80s. The IRA used to send warnings. Every now ...

Re: The To Do List

I think my cats were going to the loo under the floor boards. There is a hole in the cupboard under the stairs. We now keep this blocked (Door not properly shuttable.) Cats can go outside throughout the day, but I lock them in at night. (Croydon cat killer, foxes...) When I first started doing this,...

Re: The To Do List

No, Lily is a very happy girly at the moment. She spends her evenings sprawled out on the settee next to me with an oil heater in front of her. She periodically looks at me in a way which I think would not be anthropomorphism to say is loving. Basil seems happy too (very purry) when he's not obsessi...
