Re: General Support and Chat

i know and it is difficult to to what level we should give advise, It is difficult. For example, should I say the correct word here is "advice" (which is the thing one gives to another) and point out the word "advise" describes the act of giving advice? Or would that make me a pedantic git and be h...

Re: General Support and Chat

There is no gene that pre-disposes alcoholism Genetic science is still in its infancy. But alcoholism does often run in families. And if you Google "gene alcoholism" you'll find scientists claiming to have found a gene that relates to alcoholism. Often the popular press reports things like "(WHATEV...

Re: General Support and Chat

I saw a documentary years ago about native Americans living on reservations. Apparently many of them have alcohol problems. It must be hard knowing that your ancestors were nearly wiped out and their lands stolen and then find it difficult to get work and all the rest of it. :(

Hi Iraquois. <:)>

Well done on almost five months. (::)

The Iraquois are a civilization in Civilization V - a computer game I've played a bit recently. In my game they got beaten up by Persia.

Re: Cutting Down

No, not at all. :D Well done on stepping away from the open bottle. ;)? I did throw away my last drinks on my last drinking day. My mother had been on at me not to drink so much for years (she never said to stop completely) yet when I told her I'd thrown three cans of cider away and I was stopping a...

Well done on getting close to three years! (::)

Well, I am still teetotal, a bit over four years now. Have other stuff on my plate but everyone has struggles. I've been reading the wisdom of the ancients and that is helpful. ;)?

Re: Cutting Down

It's difficult to find a balance between not being too hard on yourself and not being hard enough. If you can shrug off a slip-up with hardly any bad feelings about it at all then you don't learn from the experience. There has to be at least a small element of self-punishment attached. If you're too...

Yes.

I think the oddest collecting related thing I decided to do was write a list of "Things With Handles". I was about seven and probably only wrote about ten things for the list. I must have been VERY bored that day.

Re: Sober October

I notice that alcohol comes up in so many conversations Oh yes! I remember my first sober Christmas my three nieces were all talking about their office parties and where they'd been and precisely what they'd had to drink and how much. Argh! :D I also remember one of my bosses arranging some kind of...

Re: Sober October

:D A thing to consider if you're being pressured... your friends and colleagues wouldn't push you off the pavement into the path of a speeding car. So why do they do something dangerous to you like urging you to drink? It's because they're ignorant of your circumstances. And they're probably ignoran...
