Re: 5-HTP: For Depression & Sleeping Problems

If I stop taking 5HTP, I normally do so earlier in the year around springtime, as it seems to be much easier as I guess my Serotonin levels are rising due to the days lengthening and the increased light available. The other thing I do is substituting 5HTP with Tryptophan which isn't quite so harsh a...

Kudza Root

I won't go into my details as done that too much in the past, but long history of using alcohol to different extents, also long history and interest in supplements and nutrition and so on. Anyway after quite a long lay off from alcohol 1 year + had to imbibe again largely due to an intense bout of S...

Re: 5-HTP: For Depression & Sleeping Problems

I have now tried various brands of 5HTP, some cheap and some like H&B which I consider expensive and to be quite honest I cannot notice much, if any difference, they all seem to work well. Furthermore it would it would seem that that pretty much all bulk Griffonia simplicifolia comes from the same s...

Don't do H & B as they are such rip-off merchants.

Re: 5-HTP: For Depression & Sleeping Problems

I have been away from this forum for quite some time and some might remember me for highlighting 5HTP along with L-Glutamine as being excellent supplements when it comes to battling mental health problems and the misuse of substances like Alcohol, which I believe is just a symptom of poor mental hea...

Re: 5-HTP : For Depression & Sleeping Problems

In that case can I ask you to remove your statement stating that it is safe to take 5-htp with certain antidepressants, as I believe it to be untrue, misleading and dangerous. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0004531/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Thanks, Sgx That is not...

Re: 5-HTP : For Depression & Sleeping Problems

5-HTP can be taken with certain anti-depressants can I ask you to cite a source for that statement norton? Everything I have ever read about 5-htp states that it is contraindicated with any type of antidepressant as there is a risk of seratonin syndrome. E.g. http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/5-hy...

Re: MissCheese's Detox Diary

Thanks 1norton. I have moved onto the two month thread as I felt I needed a little more support from those going through the same stage as me. I'm still AF \:)/ , despite having a very bad weekend emotionally and hormonally. Thanks MC it's a tough road as you well know and we are a mine of informat...

Re: MissCheese's Detox Diary

Thanks Paul. I too have been there before but have never kept a diary, it would be good to be able to look back on such things. I'm begining to realise that my home is my 'safe house', my place away from temptation and anxiety. Come on MC keep this going, I for one find it interesting as it sought ...

Re: Ideas / Improvements / Requests for the Forum

Okay, I know many on here drink every day and I keep seeing the seven day challenge continually mentioned, which is fair enough, but perhaps a step too far for many. It keeps bringing the old Chinese proverb to my mind "Every long journey begins with a single step" or something like that. So what I ...

Re: Planning a Break

They are all very thought provoking posts and I don't feel as if I ought to attempt to answer them without re-reading them several times as they are very deep. But in then next few days, possibly weeks I will reply when I have given them a lot of thought, something I must admit I tend not to usually...

Re: 5-HTP : For Depression & Sleeping Problems

I would love to try them! But am on antidepressants and its advised that I don't take them with the tablets I'm on. :( Heard some very good things about them though! Lots of positive comments etc! Bumps xxx Bumydog, 5-HTP can be taken with certain anti-depressants and I am told that these combinati...

Re: 5-HTP : For Depression & Sleeping Problems

I've been taking the 5-HTP for about a month now and I am seeing a difference in my mood and a slight difference in my sleep. I am having no side effects, but I always make sure I have food on my stomach when I take them. I ran out of them for a couple of days and could tell a difference while not ...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

5-HTP affects brain function and, in my view, should be used with caution Side effects are possible with any supplement/drug and should not be dismissed as nonsense, in my view Both Alcohol and Tobacco effect brain function and are two lethal drugs which often eventually cause death. I have felt se...

Re: Planning a Break

Relapse prevention is a laudable aim but I think there is a risk here of putting the cart before the horse. For quite some time I searched for the reason for my drinking on the basis that if I could find the reason I could solve the reason. Seemed very logical at the time. Lots of things seem logic...

Great ideas. thanks for sharing. Checked out 5http. Too many side affects. I believe products that create side affects c)an't be ultimately good for you. Re: Planning a Break

I think time of year possibly helps on some occasions but really I think if you are absolutely sick and tired of drinking and need to give up you will give up regardless of the time of year. Yes that's absolutely true MC, but is also makes it much easier to relapse. What I am trying to convey is th...

Planning a Break

Whilst there’s no hard and fast rules on the best time to cease drinking alcohol, I am sure there are times when success is far more likely. Take Christmas or the new years resolutions these have got to be two of the most difficult times to stop and actually stay stopped, for several reasons, some...

Re: Interesting Quote I Saw Today

See failure as an opportunity and if you blame others then there is no end to blame, so just fulfill your obligations, correct your mistakes, then do what you need to do and step away, demanding nothing and giving all. I wrote the above down years ago,it just kind of meant something to me at the tim...
