God Bless Ozzy
Struck a cord with me last night watching the Ozzy programme and how he, like my dad completely marginalised himself from his wife and children and moved into his own world of booze, drugs and running with his mates. It was an honest and open account by all involved and good to see Ozzy not holding ...

Quote From Twitter
Researchers say that alcoholics are twice as likely to confess a drinking problem to a computer than to a doctor.
Take it they mean on sites like this, rather than sitting at a computer and verbally confessing to the computer!!

Re: Unhappy New Year's Eve....
Hello Puttingonabraveface Hope you're feeling ok. Why do you have to find somewhere to go? Does your husband not have family and friends he can go to so that you can have a break from what is happening, it will certainly give them an idea of what he is putting you through? Amazing that he gets up an...

Here's the link in case anybody wants to view it. It does take a bit of time to get to grips with the site, though I do feel the content makes interesting reading and provides food for thought.

Re: Interesting Quote I Saw Today
I spotted the quote at the Tate Modern a few days ago, it's displayed in neon lights in the window that faces the Millenium Bridge. Thanks for all your interpretations, I took it as a 'tongue in cheek' statement, rather than a literal statement.

Interesting Quote I Saw Today
'It is of utmost importance that we repeat our mistakes as a reminder to future generations of the depths of our stupidity'.
Certainly has made me think about its content and meaning/s.

? About The Preferred Drink of Recovering Alcoholics
Can any of you good people enlighten me as to why tonic water is the preferred drink of recovering alcoholics, as I would have thought that it has too much of an association as a mixer to alcohol?

Mags, I recently came out of a relationship with a recovering alcoholic and shan't bore you with the details, but unfortunately the experience I had with her, her small family and AA friends pushed me to the brink of insanity and I completed a course of therapy treatment, which was fantastic and muc...

Re: Married to an alcoholic - having trouble coping
Hi Thanks for the update. Sounds odd to lock him for NFA, would think there is more to it than having nowhere to live. Some, but not all mother's of alcoholics can be very quick to blame, condemn and point the finger at others, not so terribly quick to take a look at their own behaviour. I imagine s...

Re: Help with my sister.
Hi, you've a bit of a difficult situation on your hands here. If your sister and her boyfriend have joint bank accounts and or credit cards, then he could check them to see where she has been or is drawing money from the ATMs, paying for hotels or travel tickets etc. As she's been diagnosed with PN ...

Re: Help with my sister.
Hi
When you say she has ran away from home, do you mean she's ran away previously and returned, or she has ran away now and you know where she is, or she's ran away now and you don't know where she is? Sorry for the questions, but it will help BE members to give you the best help.

Re: Married to an alcoholic - having trouble coping
Hello I'm sorry to read about what your husband has put you through and losing your income and home. Let's be honest, it's been a hell of week for him and if this doesn't give him the thunderstorm wake up call to realisation I've no idea what will. Yes, you have wholeheartedly done the right thing b...

Re: how much more can i take .
Hello Mo Your husband's drinking is his choice, you and your family are not to blame for his behaviour. For the sake of your physical and mental health and that of your children if you have any, seek support and sanctuary with friends and family and leave him to fend for himself. Only he will know w...

Maturity of Alcoholics
I've heard that an alcoholic's maturity is gained at a slower rate compared to normal or non drinkers. Do any of you good people know if this is true?

Re: Breaking AA Confidentiality
Sounds as if your experience with a sponsor is similar to mine, though I'm the other side of the fence and a lightweight 'normal drinker'. I'm struggling with my recent ex (X) who is a recovering alcoholic and her two very influential AA friends one of whom is a sponsor and get this, somebody I spok...

Re: Do relationships between 2 previous problem drinkers wor
From my experience of two women friends of my ex, all of whom are recovering alcoholics, I don't believe that it works. They seem to feed off each other, rather than support each other and their lives despite each of them being sober for double digit years are completely consumed with attending AA m...
