Re: Mostly Sober

Thank you SG. "I don't think I really know how to relax or doing something nice or fun or appealing or productive". Could have been written by me. I haven't kept much of a diary. Write down things in my notes. I'm not good at units - more a "I drank a half bottle" sort of note taker. I do let people...

Re: Mostly Sober

Thank you for your thoughtful reply Finley. Boredom and loneliness are two big triggers. I deliberately work an evening job, but then struggle to fill evenings when i'm not working. I meet a lot of people socially at work, but struggle personally. As you suggest, the work me, versus the private me. ...

I've been mostly drinking. I need to turn this around to be mostly sober.

Re: The To Do List

Morning You've been in my thoughts Rachel. I hope yesterday wasn't too difficult. I think I'm realising, that when I say I want to move to be closer to family, what I mean is I want someone else to move me. I am struggling to face packing up the house I've lived in for 40 years, so will probably jus...

Re: Mostly Sober

Well done on the theatre trip. Isn't it interesting what we all find challenging? To me, theatre is a buzz, but meeting up with a group of friends? No and no and no.

Re: The To Do List

Huge hugs Rachel. But for me personally, I would rather make that decision too soon, rather than too late. My last dog, I left until too late, and it haunts me.

Re: Gardening - Herbs, Roots, Veggies, Flowers & More

So, Gardening World have me caught on their emails. I was offered 35 free mixed plug plants for the price of postage (£6.00). I succumbed. Twice. I now have about 70 plugs to pot on/plant out. They are tiny. A job for tomorrow. Maybe. Every day I've been putting it off. Oh boy. Enough to drive some ...

Bumps what an honest post. I am so pleased to hear you-all got it under control but it's frightening how quickly it can take over. Well done you. <:)> <:)>

Re: Mostly Sober

Finlay, you're my inspiration, 100+ days is brilliant. I see a lot of theatre one way and another. I'm very lucky as within an hour's drive in different directions there are some good venues. I drove almost to Oxford last Sunday, to hear The Kings Singers. What a treat. Love their 'sound'. Still hav...

Re: The To Do List

Hello friends. Sorry. Been AWOL for a while. Life galloping away. Rachel I am so sorry to read about your news. The funeral. I expect a lot of your mother's friends would want to attend, but may not because of age restrictions. I am sure you know that they will all miss her. It never rains but it po...

Re: Computers (all about)

I have a new mini iPad. It's taking some getting used to - especially the keyboard, which has a different lay out. But - I can split the screen. I'm so excited about that. Makes putting my work rota (on email), into my diary so much easier. Little things.

Retired teacher - a bit controlling. I loved the idea of a creative writing group, but not the reality (of this one).

Re: The To Do List

My experience of Norfolk these days, is that on the surface it's 'run' by BBC characters. However, the real people are still there, you just have to find them. They might be hiding in local geriatric biker gangs, or propping up the local old pubs, but there they are, and usually worth seeking out. N...

Re: The To Do List

Morning Love Norfolk. I spent my teenage years growing up in the south of Norfolk, around the Waveney. Sadly, my old village has become very full of Escape to the Country people, who have no idea how to live in the country. Still have friends up there and visit often. My dog is on holiday in Norfolk...

Re: Mostly Sober

Sloping silently through the back door. I dropped out of the creative writing. It became quite dictatorial. You must attend all of meetings at set time on a Thursday afternoon (I traditionally work on a Thursday afternoon). You must send your writing to everyone in the group by a date (no problem wi...

Frequently when I'm out in town, I buy a gift card from Greggs or Costa and give it to one of the street people (Greggs is better for this as it carries more variety). Is this worth thinking about Swordie?

Re: The To Do List

Morning - sort of. Action I had to look back to see what theatre I'd been to! Doubt was excellent. Well performed and left us in doubt about the whole premise. Off to another theatre tomorrow )Monday). And I might get to see Jack Dee this evening. Might not. My sister arrives today. She wants to go ...

Oh Mark. You've commentated on my creative writing. Be afraid. Be very afraid. It is my new baby, and like every parent with a new baby, I want admiration. I will bombard you, bombard I say, with my efforts. For which I will expect a certain amount of praise in which to bask like an old alligator th...

Re: Mostly Sober

Thank you Mark. A lot of this is 'if a tree falls in an empty glade, will it make a noise' type thoughts. I make the same resolutions "smile at the customers, listen but don't gossip." At the same time, I am very aware of drinking because I am alone and have only me to answer to. If I smile at custo...
