Re: Social Drinking - or, 'Cutting down'

hi peeps sue - i really feel for you with your struggle. the whole world seems to be full of something when we are trying to avoid it. i think HH is right in terms of having to let go of the envy - while that is there you won't beat it. even if people on here did stop talking about having a glass of...

Re: SUPPORT/CHAT/GENERAL November 2008

hi janette i can't add much to what glenn has said - very sound advice. i suppose the answer to your question about temper is that we numb our feelings with alcohol so when it is taken out of the mix we are a bit shocked at how powerful those feelings are. hope you managed without the drink. hugs. q...

Re: Good reads, poems and quotes

we came across so many young people with alcohol poisoning in my old job. there were people on the estates who would sell litres of vodka to quite young children. the fall out was also very frightening - the risky behaviour was something else.

Re: Social Drinking - or, 'Cutting down'

hi bumpydog sorry - reading over my earlier post it sounds like it is a bit flippant. its only that i was in touch with leo lebrun when she was really struggling and the changes she managed to make were incredible. she was having vodka for breakfast and chugging away at it all day and yet she manage...

Re: SUPPORT/CHAT/GENERAL November 2008

hammy i had enough of curtains at our old house. our big lurcher regularly wags his tail against things, makes it bleed, carries on wagging it and sprays the place with dog blood. our old house had those pale ikea cheap cotton curtains. you can imagine. the new house luckily has blinds so no curtain...

hi rose i remember reading your earlier posts. i'm a lawyer too if your remember. i think the missing classes thing could be a bit of a worry from the point of view of your concerns about when you sign up for your professional body - do your tutors have to write a reference about you? i think i wrot...

Re: SUPPORT/CHAT/GENERAL November 2008

hi glenn

its ok - you don't need to leave BE. just relax about it - we will delete anything that might be a problem so you don't have to worry. once you are on more of an even keel you will be able to get a grip on the posting thing but in the meantime we will keep an eye on things.

hugs

Re: alcohol - cutting down or cutting out?

jos i totally agree with what you say about demonising alcohol being a necessary tactic for some people. it was something that julie said to me when i first joined - i hadn't realised that this was behind some of what people were saying and understanding it made a lot more sense to me. reading that ...

Re: SUPPORT/CHAT/GENERAL November 2008

hi k98/22 i have tried kudzu but it was hard to assess as when i was trying it i was also very motivated with my goals. i am aiming for cutting down rather than abstaining and i am not bothered too much by physical cravings - my drinking is much more psychological in the habit (although just as ingr...

Re: How childhood shapes us

hi tawny welcome to bright eye! not sure if you have posted yet on the new members thread but if not it would be a great way of getting to know a few people. my mum was born in south africa and was red-haired. she was also an identical twin and she used to describe how people would stop her and her ...

Re: SUPPORT/CHAT/GENERAL November 2008

hi glenn well done for getting up and getting on with what you were planning to do! it takes twice the courage to do things that scare you. the panic attacks are a nightmare but so long as you have the heart thing checked out so you are confident it is panic and not physical you can get through them...

Alcohol -The Debate - Cutting Down or Cutting Out?

this thread is a place for the debate about the relative merits of abstinence as against cutting down. people hold strong views on both sides of the argument and sometimes the heated debate has made people feel uncomfortable on threads where they are seeking support. here you can thrash out the issu...
