Re: Social Drinking - or, 'Cutting down'

i am not going to comment on any other posts but what i want to say is that i no longer feel this is a place i can write openly and honestly about what i feel. i think it is really sad that what is here is friction and hostility. right now i could really do with support and kindness. i'm sorry that ...

Re: Social Drinking - or, 'Cutting down'

mike i thought you had thrown your toys out of the pram and flounced off. the whole point of a good flounce is that you don't come back and say "oh, and by the way, another thing..." it must be really nice to be so certain that you are right all the time. its not something i have experienced. queenie

don't feel like that - we all spend silly money on booze when we are drinking. the price of a bottle of wine would feed a bunch of us for several days. i always justify it somehow but it is a bit spurious.

Re: SUPPORT/CHAT/GENERAL OCTOBER 2008

hi lis i agree with what the others say, and ditto what bupster says about working out how much you spend on booze - it horrified me when i did it, even at lidl prices. my son is autistic and i know what you mean about explaining things but perhaps another way to deal with it is to forbid the 'neuro...

Re: Kidney related damage

hi john i'm no doctor but i have picked up a bit of information about kidneys as my husband has just had a transplant. when you say you have kidney damage, do you mean kidney disease? if so you will presumably have been referred to a renal specialist? the one thing that seems to be crucial in managi...

Re: Do you want to say "I haven't had a drink today" ?

i haven't come across the stiffy thread yet.

would that be the 'i need a stiff drink' thread? or the 'all this exercise is making my muscles stiff' thread?

Re: NEW MEMBERS - PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE

hi maisy well done going to your doc. its something i wanted to do but never had the nerve. it sounds as though your doctor is on the ball and rather than giving you grief has given you the right vitamins and stuff. as you read round the site you will see that most people on here have at one time or...

Re: Social Drinking - or, 'Cutting down'

hi bupster

great to see you again - hope the connection problems are sorted.

its true about the tolerance thing - i now feel nicely muzzy after 1 small glass of wine and 3 is plenty in an evening. never thought i would say that!

Re: Social Drinking - or, 'Cutting down'

hi chris sorry to hear about your head. i think times like this are even more important that the times we succeed in that they teach us quite a lot! what i find works when the wine is flowing in those sort of situations is to alternate water and wine in the same glass. it halves the amount of glasse...

hi nicky i don't think you are alone with the caving in to children thing. they soon work out when it is best to ask for something! good luck with sorting things out. even if it is too late for your relationship with your partner, it will hopefully not be for your relationship with your kids. in the...

hi anna my husband is on the mend thank you - he's home now and going up to the clinic 3 days a week. life is slowly returning to normal, although my son is taking a while to settle down and was really upset at school yesterday. i managed a drink free day on tuesday and a controlled day yesterday so...
