Re: NOTICE BOARD

Thanks so much, I never forget that it was the people here who helped and supported me when I was in a right old state. It’s only when I look back that I see how much my life has changed. Sobriety rocks!

Re: Plan ahead, be aware of dangerous situations

It’s difficult isn’t it, this business of families and expectations and wanting to please others ... sometimes at the expense of our own well being. At the same time there’s nothing wrong in wanting to consolidate on the repair work done to mend broken down relationships and sometimes that’s best do...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi Scott, cravings pass. It’s not always easy to ride it out when you feel like climbing the walls, but knowing that cravings no matter how bad they are do eventually pass can give you the strength you need when you need it. And you know what? There’s nothing inevitable about relapse ... it’s good n...

Yes indeed it all starts with a sober day Cowboy. Don’t lose heart mate, yes it’s difficult but even so it’s doable ... and so worth it.

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

It’s good to “meet” you SoberSelf and welcome to BrightEye. It’s great that you’ve made a commitment to stop drinking. That’s a hugely positive step forward. It certainly takes some getting used to, being a member of an online community, I’d never done anything like this before I stumbled across thi...

Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Thank you so much guys, really appreciate it. So nice coming from work to see these messages. Makes me remember a time when arriving home from work was the signal to start drinking. What a merry go round that was. Happy to be sat here with my cup of tea ;)? . Thanks again <:)>

Re: NOTICE BOARD

Thank you so much guys <:)> I never ever forget that when I first came to BE it was the kind folk here that reached out the hand of friendship, non judgemental help and support. To be honest I struggled to stay sober for a day or two never mind weeks, months and years. It was the help and support of...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Yes it’s funny that Cowboy because I’ve often been told that we are fundamentally emotionally led or driven creatures ... that we let our hearts rule our heads ... trust our guts regardless of the evidence etc etc. I trust the evidence these days as much as I can ... of course we filter stuff and di...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi Saturn. Yes I think observing our thoughts in a more detached way is a great strategy. For me this stuff was rocket science ... thoughts were just thoughts and feelings were just feelings, neither good reasons to drink. I never realised I was caving in to something I could resist because it didn’...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Hi there Cowboy, I can only speak from my own experience when I say please don’t wait for a feeling to appear before you stay sober. I did that waiting thing ... always thinking that there’d be a better day to start getting sober some way in the future. Funny thing was I never really valued my sobri...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Luckily for me, i have built ip so much insight and coping skills over the years, but impulsivity is never the best trait of mine so back to a structured week and careful planning. I love being sober and want to stay that way ! I love the way you described that euphoria leading to impulsive behavio...

Re: General Support and Chat

It’s a hard truth to discover (yet again) that drinking is not the answer to whatever issue we’re grappling with. It took me years to understand that I was trying to “fix” the way I was feeling instead of dealing with the way I was feeling. Sadly my drinking spiralled to the point where I was causin...

Re: Just want to share.

Sad time indeed Kim <:)> starting a new chapter must feel so daunting in some ways especially with such a lot of history with your ex, and of course you your raised children together which hopefully means lots of happy memories along the way. Grieving is exactly how I’d describe it, not just for wha...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Lots of great reading to catch up on and so good to see progress being made by one and all. Something useful I was told in the early days of sobriety was whenever drinking thoughts intruded in any form whatsoever I was to tell my head to F off in no uncertain terms. Our thoughts follow these old bea...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

I would have to agree, either pour it or give it away today Luna. If it’s there it can get inside your head and then ... well we know how it goes don’t we. With the weekend approaching those permission thoughts + ready access can tip the balance can’t it? Tipping it away is not a waste!!! I know it ...

Re: The Road to Abstinence.

Morning Roadies I’ve been in touch with Pink and all is well. Like many of us have experienced, there are times when posting and thinking about drinking and recovery are not the things we want to focus on. The great thing about BE is that it’s here 24/7 and we can dip in and out as we feel the need....

Morning Roadies Pink <:)> I notice you’ve taken your posts down, I hope you’re doing OK my friend, and that you’re just taking a break from BE. Always here for you buddy <:)> Good to see you here Macintosh and well done on what must be day 36 for you, tremendous start that is, good platform to build...
