Re: Citalopram

Hi, Does anyone know if you up your dosage, say from 20mg to 40mg, do you go through all of the negative side effects in the beginning again? I started on a low dosage and I don't plan on upping it, but I was just wondering just in case. Thanks! Rebecca Rebecca, I never really experienced any negat...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

I don't know for certain what the home detox involves, but i did go to an assessment session with the alcohol consellors before i ended up going to hospital. Tim A home detox is just the same as a hospital/residential detox! You get the same medication and vitamins....Your support comes from alcoho...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

Hi Miss Cheese, I didn't go through a home detox i went through a detox in hospital. I was admitted to hospital for something else, but saw the alchocol abuse nurse while i was there and took the opportunity to detox. I can't comment on the process for home detox, but the programme for hospital det...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

Has anyone any experience with a home assisted detox? I have been offered one by the NHS and I'm desperate and I'm sick of drinking that I'm accepting the offer. I feel like I'm killing myself, which I am really! I just would like to hear other people's experiences, good or bad. My consumption is c...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

Hi MissCheese, You are lucky to find a doctor willing to prescribe meds for home detox. Most won't want to get involved. But it should work for you if you stick with the regime. Go for it and I really hope it works. Mike I am not doing it alone though, I will be having NHS addiction nurses attendin...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

Go for it MissCheese. I did very recently and medication certainly helps with withdrawal symptoms. In some ways it will act on your nervous system in the same way as alcohol, and so things like the shakes will be much milder or even disappear. There is no way you will develop an addiction to the me...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

Hello there MissCheese <:)> I'm so glad to read that your doctor is on-side in writing your sick note to the effect that your absense is due to something other than detoxing. Not that there's any shame in it but the stigma attached to having a drink problem is such that few of us would willingly op...

Re: Home Assisted Detox

I have been told to take three weeks off work, that during the first week nurses will visit my home to check my blood pressure and to give me medication and that following two weeks I need to stay at home, sleep, and allow my body to heal. I have enlisted the help of two 'buddies' who will be in clo...

Re: Citalopram

I was on Citalopram for quite a while and at the same time drinking heavily, My GP put me up to 60mg eventually and I was still feeling depressed. Duh that was the alcohol! I'm no longer taking the anti-depressants but I am getting help with a home assisted detox because I know from past experience ...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Thanks for the welcome Sian, I know that drinking is absolutely the worst thing I can be doing for my mental health but I've been stuck in this cycle for so long now... Next to my mental health losing this god damn weight is the next greatest motivator to quit! I've gone from a size 8 to a size 18 i...

Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Hi everyone, my name is Charlie, I'm 36 and have been drinking heavily for a few years but things have spiralled out of control for the past 3-4. I'll give you a little bit of my history for starters. I started having pretty severe hormonal swings about four years ago, so bad I thought I was going t...
