For those of you. Mountainhare, he is 12 months sober today. He isn’t on here anymore, well at least I don’t think he is, but I don’t think he could ever be forgotten!!!!!! Congratulations MH, a true inspiration and a 12 months truly worked hard for <:)>

Don't think he has Sandy? but Leslans and myself are in contact with him outside the forum and it was Leslans that flagged up his sober year today.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind congratulations, it means a lot to me. I hope you are all going fantastically well too. It totally is a new world when you shed the old and worn skin. I hope Mountainhare is OK with this; we corresponded a couple of months ago, and he is doing amazingly, bless him. And off on more bike adventures too, another new life thanks to shedding the old skin.

Looking back, I think the thing that worked best for me was tough love (to myself). Yes, being understanding as to why I was in the trouble I was in, alcohol wise, but also telling myself to find a way out *or else*; ie a good threaten! Much as we would do if we were our own children; sympathise with the pain but take that damn bottle away and no more excuses, ie a very good dose of strong anger tempered with the understanding...but that might just be me! There would have been no progress for me if I stopped at sympathy; there had to be anger and frustration overtaking it in the end, with my mantra of "no, just *no*".

Blessings to you all going into this new year, may it be a joyous one with peace and happiness.

Shoshy xxx

Very well done Shoshy, to see someone reach 8 years sober and be thriving on it is fantastic and i hope is a real boost for everyone reading your post.

I like what you have posted about anger at yourself, i think i went through the same thing but left it far longer than i should have (becoming desperately ill) for my anger and desire to be well to get the better of my self pity and my ‘why me?’ and ‘why shouldn’t i, i’m not harming anyone but myself (not true at all!)’ attitude.

Sometimes that anger may be the only trigger to get better, when the bargaining and reasoning with ourselves has failed; (in my case, many times over many years) and it should be embraced and harnessed - you have shown what can be done \:)/

Also, huge Congratulations to Mountainhare - that year milestone is hard earned and i well remember his posts on here highlighting the highs and lows of his journey. It is lovely to read that things are going so well.

Best, Blifter
