Completely agree with all of this HM (about me i mean, not you  )

I am far less bitter and my humour is much kinder andd thought out rather than just cutting one liners, often at others expense (often at my own too as my drinking went hand in hand with self loathing for many, many years). People have remarked on how much nicer and gentler i am these days. This makes me ashamed in a way for how they must have seen me before, but hopeful that i must be going in the right direction too.

Best, Blifter

Hey Spats, great that you laugh so much more . Life is so short, and laughter is so good for us ! Luckily for me there are several people in personal life who really make me laugh these days. Its good to be around happy go lucky people in life :D

I don't remember ever laughing after drinking, just hiding :? Probably got laughed at a few times !

Have a good day positive peeps :\:

The warm weather is definitely much more pleasent when you are sober.
I used to sweat like a pig when it was hot. A. Because of the alcohol. And B. because I was overweight ( again mostly due to the alcohol).
It's been a while since i could stand on my own two feet again

Just found this thread after joining BE last week. It's great reading the positives folk get from not drinking. More encouragement and things to look forward to :)

Giving up drinking alcohol has been the best thing I have done -
and I am much better company.
Really love this one as it's definitely something I'm worried about. Alcohol plays a big part in my socialising. Pretty much all my friends drink whenever we hang out. Difference is (I think!) they don't all drink every day when not socialising as well which is what I was doing. Sometimes in secret too.
I managed a quick pub visit for dinner with a couple of friends and our kids today and stuck to lime and soda which is a very positive achievement for me :) Usually it would have been wine. Not sure I'd be able to manage one of our bigger gatherings/parties just yet but hopefully one day that will come.
That achievement you've got there Holeymatteo..... Just great (::)

Hi Everyone

I just typed up a spreadsheet of all the money I'm saving from not drinking/smoking and am pleased to say it's almost £250 already. I've got a long list on my wishlist but first of all I want to get my teeth fixed, they're all stained from the red wine and fags and my gums have receded quite badly. Not sure how much it'll cost to fix but I want to get my smile back. I may have to join the 1 year milestone thread to satisfy all my cravings lol.

£250.... nice work Ruby!

So far this week whilst being sober I've cleared out several cupboards so am getting rid of loads of stuff we evidently don't need (most things haven't been used for months and some years!!) So definitely a positive achievement with decluttering. A job I've been meaning to do forever!!

I'm playing baseball at 7:30 pm tonight. I am looking forward to having some fun and getting some exercise. And I will sleep like a log tonight. Normally I would be drunk on a Sunday afternoon and deciding not to play baseball and dreading waking up with a hangover and all of that anxiety. I may wake up sore and creaky but I will have a smile on face. Alcohol can't give me that !

Excellent, Cowboy! Enjoy the ballgame - and tomorrow morning's smile ;)?

Thanks JJ. It's a little dangerous cause it's what we call here a "beer league" but no one has said anything about me not partaking just yet. I just really enjoy getting out there and competing in a fun way. It's not too intense and I like the challenge. I'm an old codger playing in a young man's league but I still got it. At least all those years of drinking hasn't taken my coordination away. When I'm not drinking at least. Cowboy.

Cowboy, could you just say that you’re trying to stay in condition to avoid the beers? Well done on getting there though ;)?

That's a great idea, Spats ;)? Cowboy, I was also thinking that since the league is on a Sunday evening, if anyone invites you to drink you could always tell the younger guys that you need a clear head on Monday morning? You don't need to make a big deal of it, but subconsciously you might have a good effect on those younger players. They might see you enjoying the evening without a beer and think: "If the cool old dude isn't drinking, why should I?"

Really glad for you that you're enjoying the baseball ;)?

Ha ha tentrix. I second that!

I am on top of my paperwork (bills etc). I can keep track of my bank chip and take the time to put in bills on their due by date, as soon as I get them. Then I can file them away or chuck them, depending on what they are. No more tottering piles of scary paperwork!

Love that Tentrix.

I've been keeping a tally of what I've saved from not smoking and drinking, over £725 so far, was planning on spending it getting my teeth fixed up but I spoke to my dentist the other day and he reckons I MAY be able to get veneers on the NHS, that would be amazing. I really want a winter holiday and should well be able to afford it at this rate.
