Well done Tj :) You know as well as I do, that the one can wouldn't have been enough and you would have had an awful night, either feeling full of regret, or wishing it was morning and the shops were open again.

I did the same thing the other morning, with my last can and it felt SO liberating.

Proud of you :) \:)/

Way to go Tj, I find that it's amazing what we are capable of when we really want something and tonight you wanted sobriety more than you wanted to drink.

That's a major step in the right direction.

last night i felt panic and upset and oh so much temptation , i've had the night (awake again unfortunately) and I now feel , well, i had alcohol in my hand ready to drink and i didn't !!!! it's like a miracle . I feel empowered.
maybe this time there is hope for me ... now if i can just get some damn sleep :D

Nice one TJ, I remember pouring half a bottle of whisky down the toilet 2 days after a wedding and videoed it, felt great at the time and had a good few weeks after that.

I know what you mean about it being liberating and terrifying at the same time ;)?

Hello Will, I looked up areas in North East England ,but could not google whole of the page, I don't know if this will help, but do as tj_okay suggested and try to ring samaritans.

I hope you got to sleep after posting . Post to let us know you are ok. Be careful.

Hey Will, you are not alone love. If you are feeling that bad and are considering things you shouldn't then please do think of the crisis numbers that Pickles has put up above, like the samaritans that tj has suggested. If you need more than that then please go to your local A&E and explain that you are feeling suicidal and what your thoughts are. You will be helped, that is what they are there for, not just physical emergencies.

Please take action and get the help you deserve Will. xx

Good to see you posting, Will .

Please think though of speakng to someone in person, through phone, 1 to 1 contact ,again look through the above links and Samaritans ,just someone to speak with,it can help . Look after yourself, keep hydrated , eat if you can, keep here when possible and rest .

Ok - so I've been stalking these posts for months, and just decided to join. It's been five days of drinking, often from early in the day. Work is fine, as I've been able to log on via a VPN, but I feel like crap. Fiancee is very supportive, and I just went to see a psychiatrist at an addictions clinic; valium and gabapentin (and he was very good actually - he was pissed about er having released me after three hours on Wednesday - I have been trying to get help for this, after all).

Any advice?

Hello onlynameavail , welcome to BE . Maybe it sounds like you need to make another appointment with your psychiatrist and perhaps think of going to rehab for a while , if possible . Well done on your 5 days . If you post a bit more , hopefully we could help some more . Good to stick around here on the forum also . Keep hydrated and eat a little if you can. 5 days in it can be very hard but worthwhile .

There is a 7 day thread to continue with if you like , on the sobriety challenges . Keep posting.

To clarify - it's not been five days sober; it's been five days of beer. I'm trying to figure out what to do here. I wish I could stop, but then the shaking and anxiety kick in, and - next beer.

Rehab is impossible, because I'd lose my job - too many deadlines.

I,m so sorry, I didn't read your post properly , I didn't see the drinking part. I understand about risking your job and rehab . I guess then to try to keep continuing to see your psychiatrist when that is possible for you as of your job. There are threads about cutting down, tapering off. Wait, I'll try to see if I can find them. iPad not easy :)
