Do you like the AF ones? I used to find they hit the spot for me, although these days I've more or less given them up too.

I was thinking more on the lines of three bishops fingers.
I’ve text a few friends.
I know I’m still the same but if I can respect alcohol then maybe just maybe I could enjoy a few drinks with friends.

I should have a read of the reintroducing thread, a think about all the times you've picked up before, and what's happened to the people we know on here who've tried it. If you've reached the point of being addicted to alcohol, which everyone on here has, then your brain has rewired itself. While you're abstinent, the brain forms new neural pathways, but drink again and all the old ones will light up! It's playing with fire - you might be able to drink only three tonight and even next time, but once you start to drink the uncontrollable urge will start again, usually sooner rather than later, and in not time at all you'll be right back where you were, cursing yourself for ever picking up as we have seen so very, very often. You and I both have mental health problems and the effect of alcohol on them is profound, you risk chucking all that gain away.

Hi folks, where did today go? Sleepy in response to your question. As I approached 2 years I felt myself wavering. I am a social creature and despite partaking at various events it wasn’t always easy. There is no doubt that I felt good sober, I lost weight, ran a half marathon and sorted my life or should I say my head out. I was always a binge drinker rather than 24/7 and I hated having over the odds and feeling awful. The thing is it wasn’t a weekly occurrence but if I overindulged I hated myself. Why did I go back? I’ve always known nothing would change, no better no worse. I knew I wasn’t “cured” I just caved in to the lure of the wine.
Pork, this is from Leslans, who we haven't heard from in a while now. I quote it because it's the first I could find of several situations I'm aware of where people have caved between one and two years. I've never come across one where the result was good.

Hey Pork, I have respected alcohol for many years, the problem is, it doesn't respect me. If I give it a centimeter then it will take a few kilometers, dragging me along behind until I am bereft of any semblance of dignity.

If you can do this and let it be a one off for now, more power to you; you know better than
anyone if you can do it and stick to it as an occasional thing.

Take care.

Might be wise, Pork ;)?

I think that when the thought of a "sensible" drink becomes almost irresistably tempting, that's when it's most dangerous for me to give in to the urge. Either I enjoy it too much and drink more than planned, or I stop when I said I would but feel disappointed and unsatisfied that I couldn't drink more than I planned... which leads me to drink again soon... which leads back into a daily routine... which increases my tolerance and leads me to need to drink more and more to reach the level of drunkenness I desire.

It's a slippy slope for me, and I love what Free Flow says: I try to respect alcohol - but it never respects me.

Best wishes ;)?

Why not commit to two years? It's not so far off, and it's a good milestone - gets you through the tricky twos, and gives the best chance for your mental health to recover. You might want to go longer term, but you can decide that nearer the time.

Way to go Pork. Had a feeling you might take this route. ;)?

Waking up sober with moderately clear eyes is what I appreciate most about not drinking. Mind you, if I were much younger my eyes would be totally clear. (w)

Looking forward to sleep.
