I've started sewing evening classes, and I'm frustrating myself with how long everything takes. Just now I dug out an old project, and rethreaded that machine (takes at least 30 minutes, as I have no idea what I'm doing). I whizzed up a seam - and realised it was on zig zag stitch, so changed that. More whizzing, and I realise the tension is wrong - but I don't know which way to alter it. I shall have to unpick it all, and revert to sewing it by hand. Bah and spit.

Chocolate. I need chocolate.

Danny - it's best if you get a spare piece of the material you are working with and use that to get the tension right. Tension varies according to the thread you are using and the material you are using. Try adjusting the tension up and down and see how it goes on the bit of material before machining on the garment. It takes a bit of practice, but you get the hang of it and don't need to do this every time (you just get to know the right tension etc). Good luck. ;)?

Thanks TC. The shop had advised me against using a machine - but then my sister showed me how easy it was (last summer. Since then I've forgotten what she did).

Thanks Lush,
What sort of wool should I use.
The most fluorescent bright pink stuff I have left over from my Saturday night handbag project?

Morning, my first go at making wearables , having exhausted nearly all crochet toys, was happy with results.
2 of my beautiful grandchildren modeling tops I made.
Checked with their mum before I shared, if not appropriate feel free to delete.
This hobby has given me so much more than I can express, good for me on so many levels 🙂

Have to agree. Well done. M' daughter phoned me yesterday, to ask me how to join sleeves and button seams to the main garment. Over the phone, I was a bit helpless. I'll put her on to you next time.

I threaded my sewing machine! You have no idea how frustrating it is when I can't, and I spend hours, HOURS trying to thread that needle.
