The To Do List

Post by Sheila » 11 May 2013 18:49

Many of us find when we stop drinking we have a lot of spare time on our hands, time that we just aren't used to having, and for some this can be a huge trigger. It can often be difficult to find something to not only fill that time, but to take our minds away from drinking thoughts.
It has recently been suggested that we have a 'To Do List' thread for this very purpose, and below is the request:
Digger.. wrote:I was just wondering....

Perhaps we could have a new thread called "The To Do List".

I have read so many tymes on Brighteye about the benefits of making a list of things to do. I never took any notice of that advice. I finished my last job a week ago, and don't start my new job for another couple of weeks. As ive got so much tyme on my hands I wrote a "To Do List". I have found it very rewarding to tick off small things as I achieve them, and have continued to add to the list as I manage to think straight.

Here is my present list and achievements.

Sort my feet out.
Buy and fit new toilet seat.
Look at new baths, call the plummer.
Replace broken tile in bathroom.
Cut grass around pear tree so it can live.
Put up bird box.
Ring library, order book.
Jet wash paths and marble Indian figure (did try, bloody jet washer don't work)
Repair jet washer.
Enquire about train and bus fares.
Clean kitchen floor.
Get a girl friend (then I won't have to clean the kitchen floor.......ducks for cover).
Stop drinking.
Pay council silly amounts of money.
Clear out cupboards in kitchen.
Paint front door.
Text less.
Plant carrot and leek seeds.
Poison next doors cat for digging up bean seeds.
Mend work trousers / learn to sew.
Clean oven / mend oven door / learn to cook. (Get a girlfriend).
Have a shave.
Clear out shed so you can actually get in it.
Smoke less.
Put Silvergirl on foe.
Stop editing my posts / don't delete account.
Repair bike / learn how to repair bikes.
Buy a cork board for hall and kitchen to apply "To Do Lists" to.

Anyway, I was just wondering....

Thanks for the idea Digger, and good luck with your lists everyone ;)?

Make a list.
Go for a run.
Buy some fresh bread.
Make lunch for visitors.
Drive said visitors to airport.
Iron clothes for tomorrow.
Cook roast dinner.
? See new star trek film.

Funny how the most pleasurable one is bottom of the list as a maybe. Food for thought...

Big edit.

I am so thick!

For some reason I though this supposed to be a list of things to do "today" .
It makes so much more sense now.
Ok, to add to above list:

Start writing book, even if very draft version.
Talk to certain member of family more often.
Sort out shrubs in garden/tidy up garden.
Organise holiday details
Arrange visit to my Dad.
Think about what I want out of life.

My 'To Do List' for today is -

Make a list
Check the allotment in case it needs watering (it didn't  )
Go for a walk - did 2 miles fairly briskly
Dust off my Wii
Do my Yoga exercises
Eat healthily
No chocolate

EDIT - 9pm + and very happy that I can now safely say that all the above have been achieved ;)?

Today, my to do list included getting dressed, having lunch, cups of tea and brush my teeth. I guess it's just that sort of a day. But at least I can cross them all off the list, so the day has been a success

So far.

go to rocky horror except I have to do that again today. It's not the show per se, it's the audience.
Otherwise my day is a bit rep mis of yesterday. (Rep mis = repeat the mixture. It's a medical term I learnt from reading nurse romance novels in my teens. Wish I could speak Latin).

And on reflection should probably be mix, not mis.

When you post a reply, literally immediately above your typing box, is a line of editorial possibilities; starts with a box with a bold B, for bold, then a box with an italicised I for italics, then a box u with an underscore for underlining. right at the right end of this line is a box with an s. I'm not sure what the s stands for, maybe strike out?. Have a play with the normal drop down box for different size writing, and the font colours.
