Hmm,that's what I worry about, that I'll end up moving the goal posts.
Got two events next week & still haven't decided what to do, drink wise. One's just a lunch(supposedly),and got blood tests for work, that should have been this week, next day, so will stay sober for that one. The Christmas night out though. .?! + where will we stand with these challenges?
Don't think I'll show myself up either, but if I haven't drank for a while. . :?

Hmm, sound like Yo'am in the same boat as me ;) (see what I did there ?)

Not an easy decision, been there recently myself and failed. Have I learned from it though ? Donno, hope I have no matter what I decide to do.

I'm wondering if it's that little voice saying 'it's a shame not to have a drink at Christmas!'
Initially said I was gonna leave it for special occasions, then chose to abstain..
Ock,what to do!? ;)
Maybe try to stay sober & see? Might feel different when the time comes. .?

Arr,one to sleep on. Alcohol's such a big part of society & culture. Plenty of people don't drink though.
I remember many Christmases ago, when I didn't drink at all, unwrapping what I thought was a bottle of wine, which turned out to be bubble bath! I was just slightly disappointed for about half a minute, and didn't have any other booze in the house. Alcohol wasn't an issue back then. Could take it or leave it. Suppose, when it's an issue, it's risky. Crap ennit?

Yoo Hoo to Libs and Gizmo \:)/ \:)/
Johnny, are you still around or have you graduated?

So day 23 for you and 25 for me.
It's getting better, right?
As for the christmas thing. Well lets just reassess in a bit. I'd never have considered it just a short while ago. But now I'm going to be on my own with kids and fecided for their sake no booze. And mine.
So I've made up my mind.Done it twice before due to pregnancy soI know I won't die anthe way I'm feeling now, I'm looking forward to simply having it out of the equation.

Have a great day, folks ;)?

Day 23

Hi Faith, good for you on the sober Christmas thing ;)? I am tending to agree, it's probably more than a bit cocky to think just because I've gotten through 3 weeks that having a 'controlled' drink will stay that way and not descend back to the bad place :(

Must seek some extra motivation lol

Hi Faith2be,Gizmo,Johnnyb...
Day 23 here. Hope I soon feel more separated from my addiction, like you JohnnyB. Good to hear it,btw. Craving a bit right now, tbh. It's that late afternoon, danger time.
I agree Gizmo. Far too early. Decided I'll do my best not to drink on next week's work do. Will stand me in good stead over Christmas/New year, hopefully.

Day 23.5

Hi, inclined to agree Libz, the more I think about it. Come this far, will try not to feck things up.

The London dinner should be pretty tame, in Canary Wharf, which means everyone (the locals) will all disappear early as the Tube and DLR shut down. Glasgow one will be a different matter....... :(

Tim, we have a strict vetting process to get in here ;)

Thanks Libz. It's been a tough week, but things seem to be improving. I'm starting to feel a lot better :)

Gizmo - here's my Abstinence ID. I believe it says I last had a drink 3 weeks ago. Is everything in order? ;)

Hi all. Well done everyone.
I'm happy to see several peeps using that phrase starting to feel better, or distanced from the addiction.
Encouraging stuff.
Feeling very flat right now but may just finish up and go to bed instead of pottering aimlessly. Kids gone to dads today so maybe that's what it is. That sudden empty feeling. Ah I forgot all about that. The kid free time used to disintegrate into you know what or recovery.
Keep going, all!

Hi Faith2be. Nature hates a void apparently, so in time it'll get easier to live with, like grief..? Felt I needed a pick me up too earlier, but a bit more chilled now.
Hope we can hang on in there Gizmo. Believe in yourself & I'll do the same \:)/
Think I'll drive to the night out. Would like to think I'd make a quick getaway, rather than get straight to the bar, if tempted. Time will tell.
Feel a lot more motivated now & encouraged by everyone's achievements (::)

Hi everyone,

Day 22 and here I am. 3 weeks is an achievement for me, and boy it's been a rollercoaster so far. But I'm in it now, I'm doing it. There's no turning back. I'm following this through all the way, as long as it takes.

I've been paid today and I don't want a drink, I don't want to go near a drink. The pain it's put me through, there's no way now I want to do it to myself. The anxiety is still a lot better, but I did feel a little bit come on late last night. However, it soon passed and was no where near as intense as it was a week ago.

Libz, I'm glad you're feeling motivated. That's the point isn't it - for us to support and encourage each other. We're all in the same boat and paddling along together. We need to be motivated to get ourselves through this, and being here is certainly helping.

All the best everyone, it's great to be here ;)?

Tim.
