Re: The 1 Year Milestone

So I’m just recording here a couple of milestones passed recently as I edge towards a whole year sober. This time last year there were two events that triggered and interrupted (respectively) my long-term abstinence. The first was a leaving party for a beloved colleague, after which I suffered one of the worst hangovers of my life. Managed 16 days sober before caving at a work do - and then I drank my way miserably through Christmas. It was on New Year’s Day that I quit for good.

In the past four days I’ve attended repeats of both occasions: work party on Friday and then, tonight, a re-run of the fateful leaving party. Both times I’ve remained happily sober. Didn’t last the course at either but made it home safely (on my bike, rather than lurching through the dark on foot), content in the knowledge that I shall wake up tomorrow with a clear head ready to tackle the Christmas to-do list. Strangely that list feels a lot less daunting this year because - guess what? - I’ve had the sense to deal with it bit by bit and much of it is already ticked off. So much learned. So much to look forward to in 2020. Bliss!

That’s so good to read mooths - I’ve been following in your footsteps most of the year but started at Easter rather than New year :) There’s been a bit of chat in the road to abstinence thread around work and Christmas dos. I’m so glad I’m going to be AF at mine this week and I don’t think anyone who isn’t drinking really wants to stay the (yawn) distance!
There’s been quite a lot of build up to my one in the office and I’d been feeling anxious as a result but now I’m realising it’s really only the same few people who are doing it and I think they might be the problem drinkers ;)
Anyway, I’ll show my face and get through it 🤡

Great stuff Mooths. ;)? I’m loving these festive get togethers and doing them sober, I’m enjoying them more, I remember them better, and still my favourite thing ever, I wake up without that dreaded hangover, the regret, the shame. Why on earth would we ever give up on this sober path? Long may it last. \:)/

You are nearly there Mooths, I can’t wait to see you in the beyond thread, you are doing amazing. \:)/ (::) ;)?

Just popped into this thread out of curiosity. Posted on 2019 challenge as I’ve signed up for 2020 challenge. I’ve checked back through my records and I’ve had300/365 sober days. Not perfect but am thinking of posting here through 2020 hoping to stay on track for the year :?:
