Re: Beyond the 1 Year Milestone

Post by MissCheese »

Is it good or bad that I didn't realise today was my third anniversary until I got lovely PMs from Pickles and Jos? I'd say that's good :D

Thank you for the congratulations TC, Sandy, Sheila, Jos and Pickles. I shower you with huggles <:)> <:)> <:)> <:)> <:)> and a happy dance \:)/

Life is pretty hectic at the moment with ongoing house renovations, taking longer, and costing more, than I had hoped but I am over the moon with the results so far! Work is busy, stressful, but good. Keeps me out of trouble.

I rarely think about having a drink these days, even less now that I no longer frequently browse and post here, but I will be forever grateful to BE and the amazing people here. I'll never delete my account as you just never know when the EAF will strike and I'll need to fall back on this wonderful community.

My social life is still dire but it is what it is and I have resigned myself to that, things should get better over time, and I am forever hopeful that a special someone will enter my life who I will be able to trust and open myself to. I still guard my heart fiercely, it has been broken and hurt too many times in my 39 years, but using alcohol to sooth my woes only hurts me even more. I know that now.

I really hope that everyone I have shared my journey with is well, that even when they are struggling they have hope for a better future.

Looks like I missed your big 4 year anniversary Jos! So big congrats from me, you have always been a huge inspiration. So many thanks to you xx

Ciao for now xxxxx

Lovely to hear from you MC \:)/

Rags - well done that Viking on 4 years AF. You were a great help to me when I joined BE and I'll be forever grateful. You've picked yourself up and achieved great things in the last 4 years, including sailing your long boat to the other side of the world to team up with and marry the love of your life. AAAHHHH - we do love a happy ending ;)?

Well done Raggers \:)/ \:)/ \:)/ <:)> <:)> <:)>

Cake will be served in the Late Lounge.

Lovely photos Pickles!

Back in 2005, OH and myself went on an organised motorbike tour of the French battlefields and Ypres was one of them. I think there were around 30 bikes and their riders.
It was the 50th anniversary year if I remember rightly.
It was a very humbling and moving experience.

Thanks Shelia. I always find it moving with the falling poppies at the Menin Gate. It was quite crowded there so I tried to take a couple of photos although they can't really be seen . On the news it said that over 5000 people were in Ypres yesterday. We went to a museum as well and walked around. The names on the wall of the gate we look at too.

When we were walking around looking in amazement at just how beautifully beautifully maintained everything there is, I felt I had to whisper. It's such a very moving place.

We have a house further down in France just a few kilometres from a place called 'Oradour sur Glane' which is a village that was totally massacred by the Germans during WW2.
The villagers were rounded up, the women and children locked in the village church which was set fire to, and the men were herded into various barns with the same fate.
I think two children escaped. One of them wrote a book telling his story of how he escaped, it brought me to tears.
I'm sure there must be more info on the Internet.

The village now is an open air memorial, everything that was abandoned is still exactly where it was left.
The French maintain it beautifully, and again, it's another very moving place.

They built a whole new village very close by. Another Oradour sur Glane.

Urrgh. I have been up all night so far (4.20isham) I just can't stop coughing. Feeling very frustrated. I had plans for today...

I popped out to see/photograph the poppies at the Tower in my lunch hour the other week. The place was heaving. Day tripping pensioners mainly, for some odd reason. Actually I was in Sainsburys on Sunday when they announced a two minute silence. Most of the people of pensionable age were not only silent, but stood still. Certain others carried on as normal. It was slightly surreal.
