Well......a few days ago, I walked into a bar and ordered a pint of lager. It was weird as I remember thinking, “how will this taste? How will I feel”. It was odd as it was a bar I’d never been in before.

Then, before I even had a sip, I woke up! Yes it was a dream - and I rarely ever remember my dreams but this one was very vivid and in colour! Anyway, it had to be a dream given bars are all closed!

Day 448 or something I think!

I don't often have drinking dreams but when i do it usually goes like this: I have been drinking for a a while now, but I have been moderate. I found out it was ok and I can do it. But it's usually a secret. In the dream it's as if I have missed the chunk of life out in which I discovered it was ok, so I am worried about it.
I used to joke that if I ever wanted tro drink again, to do it without guilt, I'd need therapy.

I am not going to drink again, folks, so I can save my therapy money for something else.

I think the dream was triggered by the immense level of work stress I’m currently under. Normally, I’d be down in London wi the rest of my deal team and we’d no doubt be out for drinks after long stressful days in the office. Crap food, too much alcohol and rotten sleep…then repeat! I can only assume the stress triggered that thinking, although there were no work colleagues in the dream - just a small dive bar somewhere!

Coincidentally, I was talking to a work colleague (whom I don’t know well) and discovered he has been AF free for 16 years. He stopped for the same reasons I did. Small world.

17 months today!
Starting to feel ‘normal’ not to drink
Was chatting to a friend yesterday about her birthday celebrations with her husband and she talked about the bottle of wine she had with her husband. She said you would’ve really loved it it’s just like ‘such and such’ a wine we both would’ve previously considered a treat and really delicious and I honestly thought “you know what no I really wouldn’t have loved it.”
We then continued to discuss all the beautiful food they had shared and then my mouth started watering!!!
When I’ve reflected on this I realise it’s a big breakthrough as I don’t feel I’m depriving myself anymore which is massive. I’d thought this for a while but this small interaction really proved it.
I feel free of the shackles at least for now but long may or continue!
Celebrated with rocky road and lemon drizzle cake oh amd a swim!

JJ, congrats on the 17 month milestone, and on your excellent cake choices \:)/

It’s good to recognise the change of mindset in no longer feeling drawn by drink - the idea of long-term sober living becomes a positive life-affirming goal to pursue instead :-)

I meant to ask, is that hammer in your earlier picture for making a swimming hole in the ice?

Mrs. Trojan is fond of sea swimming, but hasn't been able to tolerate the cold this year. Just now she's waiting for some neoprene socks and gloves to take the edge off! Hats off to you for persevering :-)

Hi Moo,

Glad to hear you are active and getting out for runs. My old knees are not conducive to running these days - years of abuse being paid to play football, followed by years of abuse in mountains have killed them :( Downhills are hard on me these days!

Anyway, a picture of a wee mutt, from last weekend, to brighten your day. :)

Stunning pic Jj, really serene! Although I suspect “warming up” is relative! 🙂 I had a quick 6km walk this morning -3c when I started but not a breath of wind and I was up early, so no-one else around, so me and the mutt had the woods to ourselves. She was spotlessly clean until I got about 500m from the car and she dived into a mud hole. There is a downside to having a white dog!

After bemoaning my painful knees in my last post, I was pretty much pain free today and even the downhills were fine and I can’t wait to get back out into the mountains again. Just me, my rucksack and the dog for a couple of days. My soul needs it!

I hope everyone is well. It’s been a little quiet in here and I hope that’s because everyone is settled and don’t feel the need to post so often. I certainly fall into that camp and I hope all is well with the “team”.
