I’ve just checked and I’m on day 502 AF. I still remember those first few days and weeks when everyday without alcohol seemed like a prison sentence and now I barely think about it, well I do but with nothing like the same, almost irresistible intensity as I used to!

It’s great to see everyone doing so well!

I was out with the dog at 6.30am and the birdsong in the otherwise silent woods was just brilliant. There is no way I’d have been up at that time of day when I drank. That said, the urges tonight are stronger than they’ve been in quite a while - go figure!!

Strange how they still hit out of the blue EH especially when you are appreciating life. I think for me that alcohol as a “reward “ neural pathway is still pretty strong. So if I’m feeling good then I think of drink. I guess it takes a bit of time to rewire our not so young brains again? What do you think?
Take care and thanks for sharing it’s good to know we all feel similar stuff

What you say about a prison sentence is right EH.

Well done.

I did 3 1/2 years and started again (Now 7 months back in)

Reward drinking for me is strong to the point I dither to do tasks in order to avoid the thought!

I have just had a week off which coincided with some mid term goals I had for my cycling training. I met all the goals so the rewards turned to drink. Silly really, because looking back in my life I have stalled in lots of situations because I have messed it up in favor of drinking when I have reached a certain point of success.

I definitely think your brain needs to be rewired. Over years of drinking we have formed more sub-conscious habits than we even know about. This time I am trying to find out what they are and consciously change them.

Stay safe everyone.

Sometimes (all the time actually), it’s great to wake up early with a clear head and get the heart pounding by heading up a hill. If you’re lucky, you get rewarded with views like this. It’s good to be AF.

How is everyone I hope you are all enjoying the extra freedom that the relaxation of restrictions bring
Ventured further afield for my sunset swim the night before last and was rewarded with this vista. Lovely that the water is getting a bit warmer. Swimming in swimsuit only now ditched the wetsuit. New job starting to feel better always good to
Settle in a bit
How are you all?
Day 575! Nearly 19months not counting as much now but still love a nice number

Hello BE people!
Celebrating a clean dozen!
Dropping in to say thanks again to everyone who participates on the board. I have just passed another sober anniversary - 12 years. BE was vital for me in the early days and has been a safe place to go if ever i felt a wobble in the intervening years.

Good luck to you all. Look after the days and the years take care of themselves.
