Day 16
You can do it Patrick, staying AF longterm is in my experience, the only way. Just messed up on three years AF but trying to get back on track. Not drinking takes all the should I shouldn't I , one won't matter (forgetting it is never one), guilt, shame and regrets out of the equation. I tried time after time until eventually I managed a long spell without alcohol. It takes time to find alternative ways of dealing with stress, bordem, peer pressure etc etc but after a while it becomes a way of life
\:)/ to all of you ticking off the days

I'm on the 9 month thread and did exactly the same as you. 3 1/2 year Af then started again. Totally agree without everything you say. No booze full stop, just takes all the anguish out of the situation!

Thanks smithster and Woodstock for the motivation ... I would love to get to 3 years .

on Day 28 \:)/ amazing - first time in a couple of yeArs to get this far. - so pleased & loving not having the guilt & shame and the internal battle, Still having cravings but trying to ignore or do something different at witching hour - if I can get past 7 I usually won’t open a bottle.

Hi Patrick, phoebe and and welcome mackintosh . Keep up the days and Great to have the company.

I think I will stay on this thread as it’s great to have some support . Hope you all have a good night.

I was soooooo close this evening to going back to day 1.
I really didn't want to come on here tonight and say I'm back to day 1. I've really appreciated the support on this thread <:)>

Smithster,

I would love to do 3 1/2 years and save the money I would have spent on booze, I would be rich.

I would also be very nervous of having a drink after this long, would have to phone the emergency services

Best of luck to all

Patrick

Hi all

There is some serious dedication on this thread. Well done to all of you who have been tempted but stayed strong.

Almost 18 days for me and I feel dreadful. So tired and suddenly a pain in my liver.

Day 14

Equalled my best this year so far, my first step is to beat my personal all time best of 36 days I achieved mostly in November last year. The longest I have gone since I was 17 and I am 46. I keep diaries and I had no real reason to have a drink again. I even stayed alcohol free through Christmas and New Year but had a few heavy weekends in January due to boredom.

Be good everyone

Patrick
