Evening all :\:
Lots of good progress on this thread - lovely to see.
Really struggling last 2 nights - desperate for a drink Both nights .
Really having to stop myself and talk myself down which is very dodgy but I know I can just flip.

Anyway I am still here & there is no wine in the house so fingers crossed.
Hope you are having an easier evening

Day 8, it’s been a while. Managed 3 1/2 months a year ago but these days it’s 2 drinking, 5 off, or 3 drinking, 4 off. I just want the simplicity of not being a drinker.

Hi Johnny
Great getting to day 8

Live your quote (I typed love your quote but it autocorrected....perhaps very appropriate!)

Well done Johnny on the 9 days ... it’s great to get a chain of days and break the pattern.

I am still here and on day 32 ... which is amazing but the cravings have really kicked in - might be that I need a reward I have done a month pattern so working hard on the triggers & avoiding people really early evening.

Hope everyone is doing ok and shields up for the weekend

Great work Johnny and Musty

Cravings are a nightmare. I get them in the evening but find if I eat they ease a bit. I used to start drinking on an empty stomach to get the kick  .
All these embarrassing things, regrets, guilt etc etc..all good reasons to stay AF

Have a good weekend everyone ;)?

Back to 1 :(
Not excusing it as I was the one who drank. Issues from the past were triggered today. The good thing is that it could have gone into a complete binge but I have been able to pull it back.
Feeling disappointed 😞

Don't beat yourself up too badly. You stopped, recognized it, and stopped it from going further. Try not to be disappointed and look at it as a lesson to learn.

If it was just a slip, and you still do want to stop, write it off as that and carry on the path to sobriety.

Maybe look at the issue from the past and see how you could deal with the triggers in the future. Often the decision to drink is made way before you actually do.

Take care. ;)?

3 weeks today!

Still so tired and increasing pain in my right side. I previously thought the pain was cased by my drinking (3 or 4 bottles of wine a week). I had a private ultrasound that revealed a fatty liver. I'm going to get some bloods done next week and mention the pain to my doctor.

Guess I need to work on losing weight too as well as giving up drinking.

Well done to everyone,.

When you're going through hell keep going.

x

Well done for controlling it, you're absolutely right, you could have made an excuse that you'd started so might as well carry on drinking. That took some strength.

Have you considered CBT to help you with your triggers.

Hope today is a better day.

Hi everyone,

I first registered on here under a different user name (which I forgot) back in 2009. This is the first time I have joined in and it has really helped. I am on day 17 but the big achievement for me is that I have (almost) done 3 weekends starting with the Easter weekend which are my main problem and I have momentum now.

I am self employed working from home in Data Sales so I can be as busy as I want to be which also helps (although this job and the pressure it brings usually make me drink). I have also been saving, hopefully this time I can go some serious distance.

I need to reduce the Red Bull intake at some point, it cuts out cravings though.

Be good

Patrick

Hi all
Hope you had a good day in the sunshine.

Woodstock 3 weeks is a great achievement and sometimes a slip for one night dosent mean having to go to day I - people have continued but what works best for you - please come & visit loved the support.

Hi phoebe,Patrick, Johnny smithster and mackintosh ..., anyone else out there travelling with us. Hope the weekend was good .

Still working on those cravings here but feeling much calmer since I stopped after the first two weeks.

I try not to take on too much & push things to the next day ... so I don’t feel overwhelmed and blow it.
What other tactics are people using for cravings .

Hi Musty
I thought about keeping going and saying it was a minor slip. It was very tempting from psychological point of view but to be honest to myself I'm starting from 1 ( I'm saying starting from 1 rather than going back to 1)
I'm not the person to ask how to help with cravings as clearly I wasn't successful :D. There is a bit on this website on the blog bit about techniques to help.
I'll pop back in sometimes. You're all doing great! \:)/

Hey Woodstock, I have been back to the start many times. I am now aiming for my join second best in days which is 26 days done in 2006, 2011 and 2019 - I am a tryer.

I need to stop drinking at 46 after going out drinking in my teens, 20s, 30s and 40s. In my city I must be the person who has gone out drinking the most otherwise I would have bumped into some other person from all these eras ha.

The last binge I woke up from I found 3 empty bottles of vodka in the home office bin, 2 empty cans of super strength lager and 2 next to it that would not fit in!

Best of luck to everyone

Patrick
