Hi Jali!

I'm doing the Sober October challenge too! Will get a few friends and family to sponsor me, but am using this challenge as a huge incentive to prolong my sobriety - 15 days today! \:)/

So hopefully if I make this I'll come out the other side with six weeks under my belt...at least that's the plan!

Thanks for taking up my suggestion Sheila and starting this thread - I hope that there will be quite a few of us on this challenge. ;)?

Good luck to us all. (::)

I had a look online and it doesn't seem to be run here in Australia yet. Regardless I am very keen to have a sober October and thus would like to sign up to this thread. I'm on Day 11. Hopefully by the end of October I will be on day 42. That would make me so happy.

Hi you guys ;)?

It's the 2nd October, 3 days AF and am still feeling very positive!!! Hubby is doing an excellent job in supporting me, he emptied the bottle bin  and was at home when I came in from work last evening which is my trigger time, so we had an early supper and chilled,

Nice to see you too nowineforme :)

Good luck everyone

Ann Short! Funny how the world works. I wanted to put out a shout for you yesterday on the Keeping In Touch thread but I just could not remember your name. My head, no reflection on you. I enjoy reading your posts so much. I do not mean to be disrespectful but the old grey went: ooh, her, let's go read, without fully absorbing the name. Daft old bugger me

Nice to see you back. Hope all is well. Sober October it is then.

Dave

Thanks Dave - no offence taken either :) .

I enjoy writing on the boards but struggled to find time to do it last time (one of the reasons I fell back into the "trap" of binge drinking). This time out though I have deliberately set aside some time each week to dedicate to coming on here and helping other people (where I can). I HAVE to do this until at least Christmas if nothing else - if I don't, there will be no Christmas presents for anyone as I will have binged the money away.

How are you getting on?

I've also took the plunge and signed up for Sober October. Hoping that doing it for a good course will keep me motivated and determined to stick to it. Very daunting in reality as my track record is rubbish for remaining AF but with the help of BE Ifeel I am getting nearer to understanding this addiction and how it affects and works on us. Not sure whether to just send the money in myself or tell others I am on the challenge. The dilemma is most people will probably think I don't have a problem and have the occasional drink. I suppose I don't really want folk to know the extent to my problem by asking questions - maybe they won't, it's maybe just me being paranoid ! Anyway sorry it's a bit of a long post but sending <:)> and best wishes on this challenge to everyone.

Hi all - re the questions. I know what you mean, but I think "I'm doing it for cancer charity and would you like to sponsor me a tenner then?" has a great ring to it, and it will be the same for "controlled" drinkers as us problem drinkers.

Hi everyone!

You're right Faith - no one can argue about the fact that Macmillan is a damn good cause! Jane, the fact that we're doing this challenge for charity is a bonus and also a great cover for our stopping drinking if we don't want to tell all and sundry that we're giving the booze a rest for more personal reasons! As soon as you say you're doing something for charity it usually shuts people up!

Perfect challenge really - self-preservation sugar-coated with a good dollop of altruism! (::)

Yay - come on everyone! Only 29 days to go!

Yay!
I havent dared to commit to all october, but I just sat down and worked it out - I was planning to be sober (or at least no more than a glass or two at weekends) until the 23rd- but realise that's not going to happen, it'll be a bottle or three. So why not totally sober until the 23rd,
And that is only a week less than the entire month - so maybe this is for me too!
I'll gladly donate a tenner for myself.
