Motivation to Change

Your decision to make some changes to your alcohol use is a difficult one. Your motivation to change will no doubt vary from day to day. Sometimes you will feel that your problems are not so bad, and your motivation will suffer. Other times you will be painfully aware that things are just not working, and your motivation will be higher.

It can be useful to list the reasons why you are trying to change and refer back to them if your motivation is at a low point.

Write honestly about what has made you want to change (usually the negative consequences of your drinking), then write again about what you hope to achieve from these changes (usually the positive consequences you expect, but also include the negative ones too).

The POSITIVE consequences of your drinking (if any)
The NEGATIVE consequences of your drinking
(Really be honest with yourself here)
