Special Occasion/Weekend Challenges

Special Occasion/Weekend Challenges

Postby Rebecca » 24 Apr 2010 18:50

By popular demand, we now how a challenge specifically for BBQ's, parties, special occasions or the weekend...

I'm going to a neighborhood party tomorrow, it's like a BBQ, everyone brings food and drink. I plan on bringing sparkling water or something similar and not drink!

Excellent idea for a challenge, everyone! Here's my challenge this weekend:

I'm going to a Casino night. It's a fund raiser and the food and drinks are for free. Guess what my job is there? Cocktail waitress!! No kidding, could it have been worse? I do this every year so I didn't want to beg off this time. My first function outside the house since I stopped drinking. But I figure, I have alcohol in my house because my OH drinks quite a bit. It's been an irritation and a temptation, but I've done okay. I may get a little resentful and nasty sometimes about it all, but that's okay :D

Wish me luck! Best to everyone <:)> !

GOOD LUCK both!!

Rebecca, thanks for your post on the cutting down thread - it's harder to be disciplined cutting down as you say, but I'm finding it really helpful putting specific targets on here as I can't then forget about them!

Sapphire..cocktails... ugh - lethal! Just think of all that sugar, all those headaches tomorrow and I suspect a fair few unwanted trips to the bathroom in the night... for everyone except you that is!!You'll be a sparkly bright eyed bunny in the morning.

No social plans at all this weekend, and it's been raining solidly here for days. Managed to get out for a couple of hours fresh air today but will be stuck inside most of the w/e. So my challenge (which started yesterday) was to have Friday night off and drink moderately the rest of the weekend (specifically max 3 glasses red wine per night, not starting till food is on the table). Almost managed to abstain last night, but cracked when my hubby opened a bottle of Bells last thing - just had one shot though so not too bad.

happy socialising!

Sapphire,

I don't know how you do that! Good luck to you! Hope you make some good tips too. <:)>

Rosey,

I think this will help with accountability too, putting it down in writing will help and we'll keep each other vigilant...I have trouble drinking at home more than anything else because I think my pours are rather large. :? Do you have that problem? I guess this thread will be the best one for me to use...I don't fit in to other ones because I basically have to stop when I don't feel I'm being disciplined, usually for a month. I guess I'm still on the trial and error plan, one thing for sure, I don't feel like I need it anymore...I'll take it one day at a time. <:)>

Anzac day here
And Gallipoli and Villers-Bretonneux services live
Spare a thought for the men who fought over there

Feeling a bit sad for my dad and pop and missing my mum

And my OH's birthday tomorrow
I dare not drink and spoil that

Have a safe weekend y'all <:)>

Is probably a good idea to get proper measures if you are drinking spirits at home!!! Most people when poring at home often without realising end up poring doubles, triples, quads or more .... (OK mine were more like 1/4 of a pint, but I wasnt trying to pore a shot!! ;-) )

I've tried to measure at home, I have some glasses that I marked with a sharpie...this was well over a year ago... I look at them now and wonder what I was thinking, I never abided by it! I just think how horrible that I had to mark glasses, how absurd...it was before I even found the site and was trying to cut back or stop on my own and nothing was working. I actually hate seeing the glasses I marked now because it reminds me of my horrible struggle...but it's over now :D

Well, hell's yeah, you got that right! I'd be a floundering fish out of water without this site...

It's my favorite site and nobody ever mess with it, or I'm putting the smack down!!! No, I really will, not joking! :o <:)>

Why don't you just throw the glasses away then? :D

definitely with you on the measures... the EAF starts making me tell porkies if I'm not careful...I had my allotted 3 glasses last night, then took a look at the glass and thought 'that looks really small, I bet it's only 100 ml...' so went and poured myself another. What a load of b***ks.

Did manage to resist the whisky though (really expensive out here in Brazil, so a real treat when we have a bottle in the house).

how did you get on with your weekend challenges? go on... you can tell....!

ps, still raining here... 4th day of solid rain.

Ok, I'll tell, but it's not good...I know I'm not really inspiring anyone right now...but I failed. I told OH, I can't go (wasn't feeling up to it) but he insisted I go. He usually is understanding and won't insist on me going to anything, but I did...I failed, I shouldn't have gone.

I'm going back on the wagon...I think I'm ok, but when I get a taste it all falls apart!

I feel bad and need someone to talk to actually... <:)>

Rebecca, please don't beat yourself up about it. So you lapsed, it's not the end of the world, just annoying for yourself. As long as you don't let a lapse become a full-blown relapse, there is very little harm done, so chin up.

oh dear, poor old you Rebecca, but as Bobby said, it's a one off... <:)> Let's face it, if we were all achieving our goals all the time we wouldn't be logging on to this site, so you're in good company!

can you put your finger on when it stopped going to plan? What was the trigger? Was there anything you could have done that might have helped you stick to your guns? Or your partner, or friends for that matter?

Take any lessons you can from it, then put it behind you and move on....

PS - I want a witness.... I am not going to drink tonight!!

If I come back tomorrow saying I have then you can post me a load of those angry looking smilie things.

And then I'm going to set myself a challenge for the rest of the week but haven't decided what yet...
